Cashless goes berserk in Chennai.
I noticed, for the past few days, certain business establishments, particularly certain petrol outlets and restaurants, refuse to accept debit/credit cards, saying that their swipe machine is out of order. Did anybody come across such incidence anywhere else, in recent past? Please share your experience here, let us take this matter to authorities concerned. more

I have been using since long when petrol pumps started accepting cards and there is no such issue except in rare cases when really there is connectivity issue. more

I think a lot has been done to make it safe especially with the use of MPIN and for online the option of using OTP . In matter of speaking measure we have are even safer compared to most overseas countries. more

I,ve been using cards now over 35 years and can say with confidence that its use widened over time and still keeps widening. While it is true that some merchants charge extra and there are problems of connectivity I would think such issue are minor compared to the overall benefit that one can derive by judicious use. For example the reward points one earns more than offset occasional charges that one has to pay for small purchases. Like wise is gains in discount that one can earn for purchase of day to day essentials. I have a physical handicap and live alone and was forced to go "cashless" long ago. Thanks to technology, I have been able to survive with just 4 cheque payments in lat 12 months and cash payments for less than 2 or 3 % of my total expenditure in one year.
