Cashless payemnts
Yesterday, my brother was in process to confirm the admission in MIT college Pune for MBA. There were few options for paying fee like card swipe, cash, DD net banking. We wanted to use card payment option as it was last day for admission and other options were not manageable.
We have been asked to pay 2% extra as banks charge them. Brother argued that paying extra is not our responsibility but they have not allowed us without that. As this was last day for admission we have not put our selves in trouble and paid 2% extra.
On one side government is promoting cashless transaction on the other side it puts extra burden on common man. With such policy's why one will choose for cashless translation and waste hard earned money. Definitely next time I will not go for cashless payment if such things keep happening. more

We find on one hand Govt is promoting digital payment whereas consumers have to pay extra charge even with debit card like on petrol pumps which discourage digital pymt mode. more

In a way the College was right. There are charges for using the card because Card company makes the payment and they get nothing for that service. If it is for buying some some products from Amazon/ Flip cart or other major company those people bear these charges as their product is sold and they do not insist for the additional charges more

Mr. Bharat, your communication does not state if it was credit card. Credit cards do charge some %. But if you have used your Debit card and still you were required to pay 2%, then this is an required to be taken up. more

I think whether credit or debit card the merchant in this case the college will be charged about 2% by their banker. Unless Banks do away with these charges completely the merchants are bound to pass on this charge on the customer especially entities like colleges. more

My personal understanding is as follows: 1. No surcharge is applicable when paying with DebitCard. 2. Credit Card holders have their own approved list of shops which MUST accept their credit cards WITHOUT any surcharge to clients. And these shops are supposed to display openly the credit cards that are accepted by them. If SUCH shops levy any surcharge, then they are committing an illegal transaction. Shops without display of acceptable CC may "rightfully(?)" charge extra. However, this can be verified on the Net. Claims are in order if the shop is approved by the CC. more
