CCTV recording in courts to be expanded - Citizen Impact

In March last year, with your participation we had taken up the cause of installing CCTV recording of trials in courts in India to drive transparency and accountability in judiciary. 97% of those who voted supported the cause and 80% said they would be happy to pay for retrieval.

In February this year, Supreme Court had approved installation of CCTV cameras in one district court in each state. The link has the full story:

Earlier this week, Supreme Court ordered immediate action on it across the country stating that this is in public interest, discipline and security and the Government must act immediately. This is a great win for us citizens as we were the first ones to talk about it in 2015 and 16 with no takers in the media.

We thank each member of the circle who participates regularly in polls, raises issues, give ideas for improving things.

Together, we can and Together, we will! more

What about expediting long pending cases at Indian courts. Can LC take that up? more
I think Supreme Court is aware that full transparency would expose judiciary to unwanted conclusions & they would do it step by step. more
Indeed it's a sign of change towards betterment. I also agree with Mr Dutt to consider the corruption prevailing in court offices.CCTV monitoring of general public and the officers as well as in the Court offices should also be implemented if not done, across all the judiciary system across the country. more
Fixing is never done in courts but in private places. CCTV can only create some discipline as every morning,in 95% of cases , most of the parties come to take next date and not for proceedings and these dates are for wearing out the just people due to outdated laws. Overall improvement is required in judicial system, including evaluation of judges, conduct of floor crossing advocates for blacklisting or evaluation, scavenging laws to plug loopholes. more
Installation of CCTV in courts is a good idea they should also go online lot of paperwork will be saved. more
