I will put up another example to illustrate and substantiate that this is a unfair business practices. Many store you are visiting must be given a discount of 5% on certain items. If I take the logic expressed by few members justifying GST being charged on discounted price, a product with MRP of Rs. 100/- with a discount of 5% become Rs. 95/- . Given the logic will the retailer charge 5% GST on Rs. 95/- to make it again Rs. 100/-. Ideally the computer generating the invoice is an idiot box and will not understand difference between 5% and 50% and hence the computer invoice will be using the same formula embedded in the software and will generate invoice on the same basis. Lets appreciate the fact that the retailers are adapting to unfair business and we need to raise our voice on such unfair business. I have got reliable information that Shopperstop, Lifestyle, Pantaloons, Myntra, Aditya Birla group are doing such unfair business. Ritu Wears was also doing the same but based on my complaint with State Controller of Legal Metrology, the retailer was penalised for Rs. 4,000/- with an assurance not to repeat such business practice in future. I am pleased to inform that Ritu Wears has been now for the past many months advertising discounts inclusive of GST/VAT. If any of the member think that the amount involved is too less to make a complaint and follow up with the retailer, I would request that the member may take a trouble of making complaint to the retailer by an email attached with copy of the invoice with a cc to my email. more  

The retailer is right unless total amount payable exceed total MRP of all items. In your case total MRP is 1099x2=2198, whereas you have paid much lower amount. more  

GST can not be beyond the MRP. Let the enforcement authority act. more
