Centre Thwarts EC Bid to Bar Defaulters

The government has rejected a proposal from the Election Commission (EC) to amend the Representation of the People Act to bar candidates from contesting parliamentary or assembly elections if they have not cleared their dues such as house rent in government accommodation, electricity and water bills etc.
In July , 2015 the Delhi high court had through an order asked the EC to “consider the possibility , if any, of putting any impediment to a defaulter of public dues contesting election, to ensure quick recovery of the said dues“.
It is surprising that Government wants to encourage Netas not to pay utility bills for Telephone, Electricity and Water. more

Must one really chit-chat over petty defaulters on water and electricity bills? More important is that these so-called election candidates have no criminal or cheating records. more
Election Reforms and Code of Business in legislating houses is fast needed . more
Very sad to note tha the GOI has rejected the proposal. It is a wonderful chance to reign in defaulters and rogue elements . more
Political Democracy shall not allow immoral , indecent attitude any where . The financial status of S.C., S.T., members may be different but , the other members having income above minimum Taxable limit shall also bear responsibility of payments to the Governance . The whole issue of Congress party refusing E.C. Suggestions in 2013 , the present and even those of future , are only because of setting aside the implementation and enforcement IPC Section 171 E to 171 J . The awaiting Code and Regulations of Business and practice in Parliament & Legislatures Houses is fast needed . Otherwise , some members will not curb viewing Blue Films and Dining , Sleeping in the honourable Houses AND , EVEN WILL INCREASE TO ABNORMALITY . more
