Challenging the repudiation of a TDR

I booked a ticket from SPJ to HWH in Tatkal quota but train got late by more than 8 hours and therefore I decided not to travel and file a TDR. But within a week, I got a reply from IRCTC, claiming that train was not late by more than 3 hours and therefore the amount would not refunded.

As I was pretty sure that their claim was wrong, I corresponded through emails, calls and twitter to the concerned authorities but they repeated the same false reason. Therefore, I filed an RTI asking for the actual arrival and departure timing of the train at SPJ which stated that the train was, indeed, running late by more than 8 hours.

Now I attached this copy of RTI and emailed it to the IRCTC and filed another RTI asking for the reason of repudiating my TDR and to my surprise, they readily reopened my TDR claim and approved the refund.

Unfortunately, this process took around 2 months and it might take another month to get the amount credited to my account.

Why should authorities assess the TDR claims in this digital era? Why should commutator has to go through such hassle to get their money refunded? more

This is serious negligence on the part of railways and it should be investigated on priority and personnel involved in this exercise should be taken to task and made to known to public. more  
Realy this a very serious negligence attitude of railway & they should take strict action against those who are responsible for this kind of work more  
This is harassment by the concerned railway officer denying the fact, and torturing the passenger. Can railway punish such arrogant officers so that such facts will not be dared to denied by any other railway official in future, and compensate the passenger with at least double the amount of the ticket he purchased, against the stress and torture faced by him. This is another way of showing that Railways is making profit. Not giving back genuine refund. Many passengers who lack general knowledge about RTI or Consumer Court loose their hard earned money in this way. more  
THERE IS ONE BIG HURDLE HERE FOR THE PASSENGERS The announcement doesn't give the expected time of arival of the late coming train. That delays and some times puts off the passengers in making their decisions for alternate options. Passengers , * going for an appointment , * taking a connecting train , * or even expecting some person to receive . NOW SHOULD WE NOT HAVE THE SUFFICIENT TIME JUST AS AS IRCTC HAS IMPOSED STRICTURES AND RESTRICTIONS FOR PASSENGERS CLAIMS . AFTER ALL RAILWAYS DOES ALL THIS THIS TICKET BOOKING , IN PERSON AS WELL AS NET NOT ONLY TO COLLECT REVENUE , BUT ALSO TO SERVE CATER TO THE PAYMASTERS . more
