Cheque Books may become obsolete

Spoke to a friend who is associated with Traders confederation. He is saying Govt to promote cashless is looking at having banks stop cheques as mode of payment.

Without addressing cost of cashless this will be serious disaster and a big NO NO. I hope we are consulted with before any such move.

Also I read that Govt may give 2% discount if One uses mobile wallet to make gst payments. This is also not in good taste as benefeciary may be few private companies and not Govt.

Hope sanity and dialogue prevails. more

Cheques are cashless.. Cashless society is the aim. Hence I feel that in all fairness incentives should also be given for using cheques .. I understand that for doing digital transactions one needs to invest capital to buy electronic equipment and then has to go on spending recurrently to maintain the facility.. Who foots the bills?? Why the government is indirectly inducing senior citizens to spend additional money on electronic gadgets when their earnings are going down day by day? more
paper has to be saved at your cost more
There is no authentic news of stoppage of use of cheque Even in cashless societies abroad, the practice of Bank draft/ cheque is prevalent. more
Good idea but still internet banking has to increase. more
Cheques are as good as internet banking and maybe even better since they are less prone to fraud if one keeps the cheque book safe physically. more
Payments through cheque are also cashless transactions and are more secured than digital ones. Any such movement of the government, as reported, is not yet flashed in any news channels, either in print media or digital media and therefore, in my opinion, making any comments on the issue would be pre-matured. more
