Chickens dosed with dangerous antibiotics

FSSAI - you need to be regulating this...meanwhile all chicken lovers and people who eat chicken at mcdonalds kfc, pizza hut, you may want to avoid it.

Chickens in India are dosed with a very strong drug used to treat critically ill patients.

chickens are fed colistin, which doctors call a “last hope” antibiotic because it is used to treat patients who are critically ill with infections resistant to most drugs.

The indiscriminate use of colistin in farming increases the chance that bacteria would develop resistance to the drug, making it useless when treating patients, a recent study said.

One of the companies which advertises colistin in India is Venky’s. The company also supplies meat to fast food chains like KFC and McDonald’s. The bureau of investigative journalism which conducted rhe study said it had bought Venky’s-branded colistin from a poultry feed and medicines shop in Bengaluru without a prescription. more

FSSAI should be concerned for food security or food standard only. All wrong practices should be within review. more
GOVT NEEDS TO TAKE STRICT ACTION. THERE SHOULD BE REGULAR TESTS FOR THE CHICKEN BROUGHT IN THE MURGA MARKETS ALL OVER INDIA TO TEST PRESENCE OF TRACES OF ANTIBOTICS IN THE POULTRY. THE FOOD INSPECTORS SHOULD MAKE FREQUENT RAIDS ON THE FARMS TO ENSURE THAT THIS MAL PRACTICE SHOULD BE STOPPED IMMEDIATLY. more
