Child Labour

Attached see the situation of child labour in India by state.

Can we all in this circle pledge that we will not hire child labour and if we see one during our visits to restaurant/other places, we will speak to the owner to get them to go to school atleast.

Please come forward if you will? more

Yes making children wait for hours together without proper shelter for any program is forced child labour . It is okay if they are lead on a procession on certain issues like , Road safety, plastic and garbage awareness , Drug and alcohol ill effects , physical health programs and their own rights . BUT MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE NOT MADE TO WAIT FOR NOT MORE THAN 15 MINUTES . If any organizer making children to wait for more than that will have to be considered unfit to organize . more
The figures are astounding . U.P.touching almost 9 lakhs . The reason for this is , - extreme poverty, debts and Lack of education - widowed or divorced mother , - alcoholic gambling or vagabond husband to push the children into child labour . The age and the period they are supposed to develop their life skill and play .This is being exploited by the ones slightly better of. Yet I wonder if the many households that employ these children are aware it is child labour and yet do it . But I am sure the sweetmeet shops and their kitchens are well aware but know where to pay and keep the going comfortably . The reason why it keeps continuing is the effective laws are not at all implemented by the authorities. The parents don't know the child labour rules . There is no alternatives for the child's wages . By and large we don't see child labour in Hotels and Restaurants . The law is being implemented well enough in cities and towns. Yet they are found in Brick kilns , Rice mills ,some farms which are away from the towns . Even so some children from Tamil nadu have been rescued from U.P and Rajasthan from the sweet meet shops . more
I hereby take the pledge. But what is the point in taking such a pledge? Shall any of us would take the responsibility of the family - which the child is feeding ? No child likes to come for labour voluntarily. He/she likes to go to school - to study, to play, to get pleasure of creation(painting, sculpting, acting, ... etc.). But they are deprived from all such pleasures, because of other over-riding compulsions - not only to satisfy his/her hunger, but also his/her family members (possibly his/her ailing father and/or mother, younger brother(s)/ sister(s) also. Madam Mehta may kindly make an investigation why boys/girls like to escape from orphanages. more
A good idea for doing something positive for the poor. No one of us should have a negative thought on the suggestion. more
