As access to internet via various gadgets has become part of our lives, it has made our children susceptible to cyber crimes. With easy access, childen at a fast pace are getting exposed to pornography, obscene games, information theft, cyber bullying, to getting lured to meeting a stranger.

Charity begins at home. Only good parenting can help in keeping our children under reasonable control. If parents themselves are MODERN, their children will turn ultra modern automatically and from there the race to decay starts. more
A lot depends on the parents & teachers. The parents need to spend more time with their children , and together with the teachers, educate the children as to what's right & wrong. Bad eggs in school/college who can influence the children , need to be identified 7 the children warned to avoid them to the best of their capability. There are worse issues, like drugs etc which the children are vulnerable to. Also an example must be set of pedophiles etc. more
The use and misuse of S & T devices has been there since ages. When Alfred Nobel invented dynamite, he did not think it would be used for destructive purposes. Similarly, when mobile phones and computers came in to being, their inventors might not have thought of their misuse by the present generation. Yet the goal of a society or a government should be to use scientific and technological advancements for the benefit of all, with proper checks and balances and self-discipline. Agreed that the misuse of modern communication devices happening with young children is beyond the control of parents and teachers. But what the government is doing? It's supposed to have a check on the baneful use of the modern devices as a matter of its duty and in the interest of security and safety of its citizens. How the government agencies in UK, USA and other advanced countries are so effective and pre-emptive in checking the internet porn, child abuse, national security matters, etc.? Why not our government take a leaf out of their books and try to strengthen Cyber Crime Police in our own country? Not because of dearth of funds, but because of lack of will to do so. When some of our MPs and MLAs either sleep away or caught with their pants down watching porn during Legislative sessions and going away scot-free, why blame the gadgets and their innocent users? We allow permissiveness and tolerate perverseness in responsible positions and we have to pay for it. Let the IPF take it up as a challenge to make all police stations in the country responsible and accountable to every child, particularly of the vulnerable sections, in their respective jurisdictions, discreetly monitor their movements and activities in school, in internet cafes, bring to book child abusers and racketeers and send them to gallows. One such instance publicized well through media and press will be enough to put the remaining criminals to rest. more
In this age of 21st century when the entire world has come to one's bedroom on finger tips through internet, the gate way to the cyber world, internet and cell phones have become parts of our daily life, we are supposed to be the beneficiries of the aftermath of these technologies as well. However, the anxiety on the children's susceptibility towards cyber crimes and getting accessibility to other internet sites totally unfit for immature minds expressed in the post should be a matter of serious concern of all of us and we should work together to find out some pro-active solutions towards the issue. On the backdrop of the issue, I draw every one's attention towards the following: 1. Computer education starts from class IV onwards. Does our education system have any effective curriculum of educating the students of the dark sides of the computer & internet and as to how to save themselves from the destructive affects of the technologies; 2. While majority of our house holds have at least one computer essentially required either for study or work, having a cellular phone, that too a smart phone with internet connectivity, has become a part of fashion and it is very common that a child of even 8/10 years is holding a phone in his/her palm. As parents we feel proud of gifting such gadgets to our kids without giving any thoughts to its necessity; 3. As parents, we never insist on any kind of restrictions on our children towards accessibility to the internet. On the contrary, we feel proud on their expertise & command on internet and surfing numerous sites; 4. Parents never make any efforts to explain to their children the negative affects of the internet nor they exercise any control on their excessive use thereof; 5. Our culture does not allow the parents discussing with their children on the deadliness of the pornography and other obscene; 6. We seriously lack proper & effective laws to restrict children using cell phones & internet. Our education institutes and schools do not play any role in the matter; 7. Our police does not play any role in this regard or any other social issues. Moreover they become blind & deaf on seeking a bike rider or a car driver talking over a cell phone while driving rather than stopping and penalising them; 8. There are plenty of cyber cafe in all of our cities & towns but police never try to see their activities and to ensure the kind of sites they make available to the users. Majority of these cafe allow access to the porn & other obscene sites; 9. Until we amend ourselves and come & decide together to nullify the adverse affects of the most beautiful and useful technologies of the 2k century to the mankind by applying some sorts of control over its use by our children, our police and administration are awaken, the issue is likely to grow in a more lethal way. more
Where police has full details of trafficking rackets online and has not acted, it means either they don't really care or they are incapable/incompetent to deal with technology. They already have the Norton Report, so what are we discussing... It is correct, no doubt about it. Suggestions would be crack down on known criminals first before we beat around the bush trying to find others. Otherwise outcome would be the same... No Action, just discussion and fuming, I don't understand to what end! more
