BJP starts online communities on 'Local Circles' to address local issues
NEW DELHI: Noting the success of BJP's online campaign during the Lok Sabha elections, the party's communication cell has started online communities on Local Circles, a social networking site, to stay in touch with the people of certain constituencies. The communication cell of the party has taken this initiative - Transform India with Narendra Modi- to address the grievances of citizens at constituency level and make the constituency "better and more liveable."
The objective is to provide a local platform to citizens to come together, get connected with each other and their elected representative to address local issues such as safety, water, roads, power and sanitation, besides creating awareness and finding solutions. All inputs from citizens will be collated and submitted to the respective MP via BJP communication cell. Members believe that that community would also help bringing transparency and fixing accountability.
The community has been started by Rajendra Pratap Gupta who is coordinating the citizens' circle initiative. Gupta was also involved in drafting the manifesto for the party under the chairmanship of Murli Manohar Joshi.
As a pilot initiative, the cell has already created 11 local circles in the Delhi and NCR (7 constituencies of Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Faridabad). Most of them have close to 500 members and once these circles are 1000+ in size the elected Member of Parliaments will be invited to join. Once Delhi/NCR constituency circles are up and running, 10 more constituency circles would be created. For this, the communication cell of BJP is appealing to citizens in different locations to volunteer for creating and administrating the local circle in their respective cities.
Not only MPs, Gupta plans to involve other elected representatives as well in the whole process to ensure speedy redressal of the complaints raised by citizens in the online forum. "The idea is to get firsthand information from citizens and convey it to people who matter. We would initially cover constituencies in Haryana which is going to polls end of this year," said Gupta.
Transform India with Narendra Modi claims to have collectively developed 10 immediate priorities and 10 long term priorities which have been submitted to the office of Modi. Some of the issues taken up include - making doing business in India easier, women and child safety and empowerment, corruption and transparency and others. The whitepapers on these three subjects will be submitted to the PMO and associated Ministries for action. The community has already received more than 35,000 posts and comments from citizens. more
