Circle Recommendations on Garbage Dumping Accepted

Many of your proposed through various consultations on garbage management and solid waste management that the fines on garbage dumping should be increased so it serves as a deterrent.

After the circle recommendations, fines for solid waste dumping were increased from 50 and 100 rupees to 500 and 1000 rupees in Solid Waste Management rules 2016.

Earlier this month the National Green Tribunal has increased this fine to 10,000 rupees.

We would like to seek your inputs on how the Urban Local Bodies or Municipalities across the country should implement this ruling on the ground.

We look forward to your inputs!

Without providing infrastructure or facilitating the disposal of waste, just imposing penalty will not help. Let steps be taken by the Government in this regard. more
True, also it needs to clean the mind / thinking of casual public, to teach social values, which doesn't reach by advertisements. more
Enhanced fines without proper follow-up checks and unstinted support of neutral and non-corruptible inspectors would lead one nowhere. Stopping and stuffing of loopholes and bottlenecks in the systems only could lead to some useful results. more
I live in Girdharnagar Society, Shahibaug, Ahmedabad. The garbages are thrown by the nearby slum area outside our bunglow on daily basis. I have lodged complaints more than 50 times through online portal/telephone number and four times to Municipal Commissioner through his official email id. But till date no improvement is taking as no actions are taken against the people who are throwing garbage regularly. Municipal Officials come for a day to sort the issue on temporary basis and no permanent long term steps are taken by any of the officials. I am sure, this must be happening to many people among us. The Municipal Corporators and MLA are not seen anytime through-out the year despite they are from Modiji's Party. It seems the responsibility needs to be given to local Municipal Corporator and the MLA of the area they are elected from. Otherwise the punishment or penalty shall be imposed on them as well. Atleast keep them away from the honorarium/stipend and other perks available to them. OTHERWISE MODIJI's MISSION of "CLEAN INDIA" will remain on paper. more
Even if you increase the fine it won't be helpful. Problem is with implementation. There are very less people who are fined for dumping these wastes. Also corporation refuse to accept solid waste (like toilet pot). If it goes upto commissioner level then they accept it with extra charges. This forces people to dump solid waste in public place. more
I do not think the local bodies are ready mentally leave alone Physical preparations - First prepare them to take job seriously then any thing can be done. Zero even in a city Like Hyderabad leave alone smaller towns more
