Circle Request Accepted

78% of you in the Make Railways Better circle poll earlier this year had asked for Accidental and Theft insurance to be offered by Railways.

Per IRCTC, effective September 2016, for all website bookings, insurance will be offered at a nominal price of Rs. 2 per trip for accidental coverage. In addition baggage theft coverage of upto Rs 5000 will be provided.

You are welcome to give inputs on whether this insurance should be defaut option for all bookings and if it should be made available over the counter as well. more

The stated proposal is acceptable to me. On 25 Jul 2016 07:30, "Ministry Of Railways" wrote: > more
Vasant Karia. I heartily appreciate the views and comments by my two member friends namely Shri Chunilal Malik and Shri S.K.Virmani(Citizen Expert) and partly agree to their views but at the same time would like to comment that we should try to be Part of the System and can not expect all benefits and losses from them considering that Rail Transport System is Boon to Our day to day life in all respects of cost and economy and Time-management of our daily life style. However we can say that depending on the Analysis of Last 5 years Accidents/Thefts and figures of Claims paid/to be paid to Passengers Railways may Try to Absorb as part of their running expenses and thereby they can work out on the basis of their past Analysis to transfer the Load of Claims and Other Losses on Insurance Companies of our Country and then a very Nominal Amount may be transferred on the Passengers after transparently declaring your Calculations on the basis of Past Analysis. However I Repeat It should be part of the Fair by Default because still the percentage of Awareness in Our Country is far far LESS regarding Payment of Claims on Accidental and Thefts and hence if it is kept Optional Very Few will be able to Take Advantage of the Same which in Over All is a Loss to The System. more
Please provide the details as to the basis of fixing Rs. 2/- per passenger as insurance premium. This would promote transparency. Please upload a copy of any data report for the accidental claims and theft claims during past 5 years. more
The charging of insurance premium from the passengers in unfair as it is the statutory obligation for any the transporter to offer safety to the passengers and luggage. Secondly in my another post such practice is just to offer an assured business revenue to the insurance companies valuing more than Rs. 1400 crore per year. It is expected that Railway keeps away from becoming Marketing Agents of the insurance companies. more
Suppose I do not opt for insurance by paying Rs.2/- extra. Does it mean that railways is not liable for any loss to me or my person ? Why do I have to compulsorily buy extra insurance ? more
