Cleaning of Rivers in India: Issues

Many of you have outlined your concerns in regards to the state of rivers in India when it comes to cleanliness. Kindly share all issues you have experienced in the recent years. Also, you may share how these rivers are continuing to get polluted based on your experiences.

Once upon a time there were Oysters and variety of fish were available in Damanganga river and was life line of local populous but now due to industrial effluent, colour of water has become dirty red and there are no biodiversity left in the river and Pollution Control Committee is busy in corruption. Even Google Earth shows this changes. more  
We have do following things very seriously : 1) Sewer effluent Discharges to rivers are to be stopped . 2) All type of dirty inputs to river are to be checked and stopped . These dirty inputs , discharges are to be treated circulated, cleaned on grounds itself . 3) Religious offerings to rivers are to be stopped . 4) Plastics are to be banned throughout Country . Colorful Jute bags are to be promoted . 5) All type of Fairs in river basins are to be banned . Fair can be arranged at other locations . 6) All chemical discharges from factories are to be completely stopped . 7) Continuous draining of underground water through bore wells has depleted the water table . This has resulted in stoppage of sub surface flow towards river . So river flow is minimizing . Water in rivers should be pure and enough as it is beneficial ecosystem . Our long survival is based on healthy & green ecosystem . more  
First let us not pollute the rivers and other water sources. The individuals and industries polluting the rivers are to be punished strongly to stop the menace. more  
Bioaugmentation should be seriously considered for upkeep of the waters. Enough work is happening worldwide and by private companies within the country, government should tap these resources. more
