Cleanliness and maintenance of Indian Railways
1. I started my journey from Nizamuddin Station in Delhi. It was a pleasant surprise to see a revamped and clean station. Even outsides of the station were clean and well maintained.
2. I travelled by 1st AC car of Mewar Express. the insides of the coach were clean as I have never seen before. But the maintenance of the coach was very poor. The toilets too need more attention to be clean. The newly installed stainless steel wall panels in the toilets were so dirty as if they are never cleaned. water from wash basin was flowing on the floor, which could be with little more effort.
3. Then I traveled from Udaipur to Jaipur in 2nd AC car of the khajuraho express. It was a very bad experience. little cockroaches were roaming freely on my berth making it impossible for me to sleep.
Apart from cleanliness issue of this train (19666) the running updates were not available on number 139. in the dark of night It was very difficult to make as to what station is approaching ( my suggestion is that there shall be announcements inside the train about the coming station).
4. I travelled from Jaipur to Sarai Rohilla, Delhi by executive class of the train no. 12985. It was a very nice experience. the coach and toilets were clean and well maintained.
Thus it appears that a lot has improved and more has to be improved. The Railway staff and the passengers appear to have become conscious about keeping the surroundings clean but sill, a lot has yet to be accomplished to make the journey comfortable more
