Lack of cleanliness at places of worship – Root Causes
1.The number of people that visit the places of worship are very large
2.People from all walks of life visit religious places and many of them don’t understand the concept of cleanliness
3.The quantity of food made on special occasions is huge
4.Devotees get food for free and hence they don’t care about the wastage
5.People just don’t care about the cleanliness of the place
6.They have been used to seeing religious places dirty and feel that it is a part of the package
7.Many people stay under the notion that there are enough people to clean the filth that they create
8.Temples do not have a proper waste management system
9.There are not enough garbage bins in and around religious places
10.Neither management (pandas, pujari's, and volunteers) nor devotees take it as their duties to keep the premises and surroundings clean
11.No one is there to stop, suggest or advise the devotees
12.No cleanliness code of conduct has been designed by the authorities for places of worship

2.People throw garbage everywhere
3.The offering like flowers and Prasad invariably ends up on the floor
4.A lot of food waste is generated during special occasions
5.Lack of toilets around religious places
6.Garbage generated from the temples is not disposed-off properly
7.Temples generate a lot of plastic waste
8.Garbage bins are always overflowing
9.Lot of wasted water and milk also creates a lot of dirtiness in the area
10.People offer Prasad to the dogs loitering around in the area
11.Organizers of temporary places of worship during Ganesh and Durga Pooja do not provision for garbage management. more
