Common consumer under distress

The atta for your chapattis, the oil for your cooking, the salt for seasoning, the milk for your chai—a number of items of daily use saw prices rise further in April, with some costing the most in at least a decade.

The average monthly prices of nine of the 22 food items that the Department of Consumer Affairs tracks on a daily basis rose to the highest on record in April.

Wheat, atta, edible oils, including groundnut oil, soya oil, palm oil, sunflower oil, vanaspati, milk and salt were retailing at the highest prices since 2012. Comparable data prior to that is not available.

Why are none of us bothered about these rising prices while some industrialists of our country reap record profits??? more

Huge subsidy on fossil fuels, i.e. diesel, has been enjoyed by the rich for at least 14 years, when automobiles were produced that ran on diesel. Inequality in India is so high that 10 richest Indians earn amount equal to the income half of the most poor!! more
The issue came up earlier and made no impact on Govt. thought to control the prices of essentials. Perhaps Govt is no mood to address it well and we are engaged only in discussion. Govt. is dreaming to reach 5Tn economy to have a big credit in Global market. Andh bhakts will beat the drum without assessing an impact. more
While MRP prices of most branded products have been increasing, they're all available at substantial discounts through online market places, if you take the effort - Net impact on consumer price is negligible .... On the other hand Unbranded / Loose / Wholesale packs' selling prices remain largely unchanged, especially if you choose not to buy from air-conditioned super markets .... You're paying more for easier and more pleasurable shopping - not for the same things any more .... more
High Inflation has affected most to the Non Pensioner Senior Citizens. Approximately 12 Crore falls in to this Category. Govt must Increase interest Rates for SCSS and PMVVY. Govt should Increase the amount from 15 Lakhs to 25 Lakhs on Each. For SCSS time limit must be made straight 10 Years instead of 5+3 years. These people must be Exempted from paying Income Tax. more
I wrote earlier about the plight of senior citizens in this forum and requested this forum to highlight the same to FM too. The major requests I made are: 1. Not to reduce interest on senior citizen benefit schemes 2. Not to restrict for number of years of senior citizen schemes like SCSS (5+3 years), PMVVY (10 Years) etc. Do the Govt. think these people survive for a limited period! 3. To increase EPFO pension amount periodically, as this is the only scheme for many private sector retired employees. 4. Provide medical facilities for retirees like Govt. Retirees since they too paid taxes, especially most of them Income tax. When they are part of nation building, why the authorities are not taking care of them, in need! 5. Reduce pensions, benefits to legislators and set example to the nation instead of asking people to ' GiVE UP' benefits like LPG subsidy, pensions etc. by common people. It may not be too late, but the authorities to act in a positive way to redress the senior citizens grievances. more
