concessions to senior citizens
Mr chandra sekharan is right to express his feelings asking senior citizens whether he would forgo his concession by half or full.that means that railways have already decided to do away with the travel concessions granted to senior citizens by previous government.Then the government can think to employ the senior citizens in any government department with salary equal to what they had drawn equal to the present salary by viith cpc. The government is going negative .withdrawing the gas subsidy by asking the people have done good.It doesn't mean that Railways can decide unilaterally about a concession given already.There are many concessions like sc/st concession.physically handicapped concession, perennially sick persons concession etc. the concession to senior citizens is a reward to those who worked and got tired by giving their blood and sweat to this nation.now at the evening of their life if they want to travel they are not able to cough up the money.Hence previous government sympathetically considered the plight of senior citizen to grant them relief.It should not be removed.On the other hand we would ask free food also in the train. more

WHY ANY EMPLOYEE BE GIVEN FREE PASSES AS HE IS RAILWAY EMPLOYEE HE IS PAID SALARY FOR HIS WORK IF GOVT WANT TO GIVE FREE PASSES THEN GOVT MUST GIVE TO ALL BUSINESSMAN WHO PAYS INCOME TAX OF MORE THAN 25000 PER YEAR AS THEY ARE REAL EARNING MEMBER OF GOVT AND PAYS TAX WITHOUT ANY GOVT SALARY GOVT MUST SCRAP ALL FACILITY GIVEN TO THEIR EMPLOYEE AS THEY ARE ALREADY GIVEN SALARY + BONUS FOR THEIR WORK WHY THEY NEED MORE IF THIS IS DONE I THINK GOVT WILL SAVE THOUSAND OF CRORE RUPEEES more

Before asking to senior citizens for not opting the concessional fares, railway first look in there own employees if they are willing to give away the free travelling facility to them & for their family. The railway must publish the real data of their own employees giving up the free travel facility & then ask senior citizen for giving up the concessions. I challenge if railway can get one single employee give up the free travel, which is considered as their birth right. Also then second step would be ask all the MLA/MP to stop free travel, purchase full fare 1st AC tickets & then travel. Railway officials & Mr. Suresh Prabhu do this first & then think about any senior citizen concession reduction more

Actually Railways should realize that the occupancy rate of the Trains is almost 70 % on an average . About 20 to 25 % are senior citizens . Mainly because of the concession given by the previous Govt. That has motivated the senior citizens to travel more than before . It should continue , so that the occupancy improves. more
