I am 60 years of age and regularly practice Matsyasana (fish pose) and found it very beneficial for overall health. Sometimes it creates high blood pressure ( 150 / 100 ) , which remains in range of 140/90 without this Asana and any drugs. Can this Asana be responsible for high BP. more
Mr. Jayachandran- If I practice this particular Asana continuously for 3 days, the BP shoots to 150/100 level- forcing me to stop. Can such Yoga asanas alone be responsible for this? more

Considering your age 140/90 is a healthy reading. BP can slightly vary while practicing any form of exercises / Yoga etc. If you are used to the practice, there is no need to worry. Duration and exertion may be reviewed for a safe level. Mild change in BP in this pose is a natural physiology due to the spinal curvature at neck and chest with breathing pumping heart and blood flow. Also other mechanisms like stretch reflexes also comes in to action. Also High BP to be diagnosed as a disease the criteria is different than a temporary rise occasionally. But safe technique adjustments while performing are to be considered. more
