Control over MRP

In favour of consumers and moreover to control inflation, Government should have a mechanism to control MRP printed on each & every item. An item whose MRP is 1000/- is available with 1 to 70% discounts (depends upon buyer`s negotiation power). If MRP mentioned on that product is 300/- then there is no need of bargaining. We all face this issue daily in our life. Let me share my experience. I have purchased an IFB Microwave last year from Sargam Electronics, Pitampura for Rs. 9200/- (MRP was 10500/-) after bargaining and next day I came to know that same model is available with other showroom for Rs. 7500/- only (without bargaining). Whom should I blame IFB….Sargam electronics…. or our policy makers……? Same way, I have to purchase an LED. Last week, I visited many showrooms. Same model is available at price ranging 25000/- to 30000/-. more

Govt itself says "JAGO GRAHAK JAGO" ask for discounts on MRP as a habit, and believe me they are available on most items. Will you believe me I get discounts even on newspapers, magazines 10 to 20% medicines 10 to 20%, furniture 30 to 50%, crockery, gas burners chimneys 10 to 25% sometimes even 30%, clothes 50% to 70% If you have the guts, and patience to bargain you will get the discounts in bargains. more
Maharashtra has this MRP printing system rigidly enforced, I was always able to pay as per printed MRP. In Haryana (Gurgaon) and Gujarat (Ahmedabad) the whole system is a hoax, they do not include the taxes. This really misleads the customer more
This is to create healthy competition among different traders and this is prevalent in all markets from US, Europe, Middle East and Asia. more
There are certain industries where menu prices are displayed and they stick to one price across multiple locations or outlets. For example, Auto dealers, fast food outlets, restaurants etc. There too customers are confused if the displayed price is inclusive of tax or not. more
discounts vary so much that we always feel cheated; electric wires/switches-61% , sanitary pipes and fittings and fixtures you must compare the discounted prices and not the mrp. clothes- 75% in sale even in japan there is 90% sale at sale junctions for clothes, electronics even at factory levels- every day 100 factory close down. more
