CORRELATION BETWEEN SIDE BERTH, the TOTAL NUMBER & LENGTHS of COACH IN DIFFERENT CLASSE :

Hitherto we have been having only Coaches made in ICF , Chennai. Past Close to a decade Railways also make L.H.B (Linke Hofmann Busch ) Coaches with advanced technology to increase speed and accommodate more passengers to meet the need .

However, LHB coaches are longer than ICF coaches by about 1.5 meters or so. This allows more seats/berths to be accommodated in an LHB coach.

* This increase in length has translated into increased number of rows ( cubicles ) in each compartment in Sleeper Class 10 in LHB compared to 9 in ICF .2A 9compared to 7& 1/2 in ICF Coach .

* That in turn has effectuated in offering more Berths in compartment in L.H.B (Linke Hofmann Busch ) in all classes in a coach . This increase in number can be seen in the attachement that gives class wise . In sleper Class 78 in LHB compared tp 72 in ICF . And 54 compared to 46 in ICF .
L.H.B. coaches have incorporated some featres to facilitate the modern Rail traveler .

As the number of Rows decrease in higher class the length of the SIDE BERTH INCREASES

Yet the design Department R.D.S.O. has to be more sensitive to the modern Indian'd need and Dimentions sooner the better . The design and the approval trial, all shouldn't be over in 60 days and the roll out another 30 days .

IF DELAYED THE RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT WILL END UP MANUFACTORING FOR YESTERDAYS NEED AND NOT TOMORROWS NEED & DEMANDS OF CUSTOMER .

Little more proactivity and speed is solicited more

I was booking a ticket in ALD-LTT duranto express and total number of seat availability was 50 Nos. and I opted for SL birth but was allotted MB and still it remains unsolved of not getting the choice of birth when there is 50 Nos. of seat vacant? Can railway explain this why? more
Why ICF can not change over to LHB model so that number of seats/births available increases? Further they need to improve window design in non AC coaches as they do not close properly and passengers feel cold at night as cool breeze gets through it due to poor design of windows. Even rain seeps in during rainy season. It is outrageous what quality control people and design people are doing? They should be asked to travel in them so that they can understand inconvenience faced by commuters. more
Planning ahead of time is very IMPORTANT and suggestion by Shri Jayakumar Daniel is very usefull and needs urgent attention by Railway authorities. Shri SUBBIAH Ramdass has taken a very pessimistic view. Under those circumstances nothing need be done and no improvement will ever take place. We are considering facilities to passengers who pay for the services. We are not aware nor right now concerned with woes of vendors. However there is no doubt that corruption at all levels and all activities is a fact and needs strong handling to eliminate same. RYK. more
Wonderful & Knowledgeable information. Thanks On Wed, Feb 26, 2020 at 11:21 AM Jayakumar Daniel wrote: > more
I am wondering whether the side berths can be slightly extended (say by about 6 inches); the number of side berths can be reduced by one. In other words, the side berths may not exactly be the same as the number of bays but less by one. Will that be useful? more
