Corruption and corrective measures

The corruption is a gigantic demon which needs constant fighting to eradicate it or keep under suppression. For this previous experiences show a way. One such example is Mr. T. Seshan, ex-Election Commissioner of India. His working style has created chill even in the then ruling party and it had dilute the institution by increasing the number of such commissioners to three. Successors had proved that they were the stooges to the rulers or ruling parties.

Another example is Mr. N. Vittal, ex-CVC. Under his leadership the institution of Vigilance has shown exemplary work and the work had also continued the same for some more time followed. During his tenure only, the CBI has got most selected officials from top to bottom who acted fearless and without any reservations. The product of his tenure is Mr. K. Lakshmi Narayana, Joint Director CBI and Mr. Venkatesh. These two had instilled confidence in the staff and organization of CBI to newest heights. Their functionary style has created chills even in the Judiciary. Some of the judicial officers including judges were arrested. Contemporary CBI force had even trapped their own Superintendent. The reward given to these two officers was transfers on technical reasons at the nick of the moment. For his exemplary work Mr. K Lakshmi Narayan was treated as posting him as OSD for about 9 months. People like him would not bother for such treatments but we the citizen of India will be the losers.

As far as CVC of present day is seen from its monthly reports hosted in its web site, more than 80% of cases initiated are being dropped. The present CBI is also not allowed to work to its full extent as could be seen from the types and number of cases that are being tried.

The present Government should bring those officers and staff who worked selflessly with dedication for the cause of the posts leaving aside bloody technical rules of 3/5 years working. Our Prime Minister had shown the way in Gujarat enabling efficient officers to work beyond these limitations. Let us request our PM to follow the same pattern at National level also. more

Value education is missing from our education system. Everything taught in schools are to get good marks and get a good job after completion. Need to bring in Educationists, professors, school teachers, lecturers together to rework on the education system we follow in India. It is not possible to run the big country like India with few good officers. A strong message from top officials could change the system to some extent. We could see the change in government offices, where people are coming to office on time after the instructions from PMO office. Slowly but steady work towards this will definitely bring in change. Please do not expect overnight change. more
Modi can bring in few honest and upright officers, but unless the whole party thinks and acts in a similar way, drastic changes in corruption levels in 5 yr period are not possible. Long term changes could only be brought through value education during formative years of children. To achieve this, high quality teachers with respectable salaries should be recruited especially in lower classes. more
