Corruption in Army - Issues

I appreciate this opportunity to submit a view-point. Corruption is of the mind-set too; it's doesn't entail exchange of money. Officers of rank park cars at DSOI Dehradun haphazardly - parking over line-dividers between car slots; at inappropriate angles; over area mandated for fire-engines. The resulting effect is demoralizing of junior staff, gatemen, and those responsible for maintaining order. We, Indians, needn't give up on basic civility, and certainly not in the forces. Dear sirs It is nice to know that you are fighting for corruption I fully support this Unless mentality of people change corruption will continue and India cannot progress It is very bad to see that corruption has reached the peak in state govt In fact I could not work for a contractor who was working for state govt as I could not see the state of things and came back home It is really very bad. I can give details how unscrupulous the contractor and officials. They are looting our country. Something needs to be done. Corruption is that which political leaders during UPA rule allowed smuggling of drugs from across the border without any checks by security forces that spoiled youth and ruined many families in Punjab. Thanks to Modi ji it has been controlled to some extent more  

Years ago, we were contacted to develop a system for them. Pre-requisite was a demo to show that we could do it. I developed a prototype and successfully demonstrated it at a local workshop owned by a friend. I was called to MoD for several meetings but did not seem to be moving forward. During a discussion with my workshop owning friend, he advised me to forget it. His reasoning was that I had demonstrated it locally and just some tea and biscuits were offered. I should have demonstrated it at a hill station offering the officers and their family stay at a 5 star hotel to stand any chance of getting the order. I believe that he was right. more  

Corruption in Defense Ministry is not new and developed in few years. Decades of mis-rule and mismanagement of the ministry payed the way for rampant corruption in the ministry. Another problem was very few good able ministers ( I mean good administers) manned the ministry. Just think of what is the contribution of AK Antony as defense minister who was there for 10 plus years. The reason is he was a poor administrator and lacked vision for development, fearing corruption and damage for his clean image he did not take any stern action during his time. Such several ministers we can see in last 6 decades. During Indra's time loyalty was more important than honesty. So key positions are filled by loyalists in her time and that is continued. Corrupt and biased vigilance officers are posted everywhere, so there was no internal check on corruption and mal-practice. Now we can see many regulatory, statutory, judicial organizations honest people are very less. They are sidelined to unimportant positions thereby such group is reduced in number. My brother was an EE in MES, he used to tell me the rampant corruption in the department where sub standard products are purchased at their central purchasing center in Delhi by bribing the concerned Babus or military officials. First move I feel should be divide the mammoth ministry into various departments and sections, each department should be headed by honest, patriotic officers. Also all department should have vigilance officers of high integrity. The processes (activities) done in each department should be documented and made transparent. Each sections or departments should be made accountable and activities should be transparent. In India even now many of the processes or procedures in many ministries are still follow rules and regulations left by the british colonial system. May be some important ministries some changes we can see, but others never come to light. In my experience, ISRO is one of the well structured organization (though there also corrupt elements are there, but less) and the credit goes to Vikram Sarabhai, his cleverness in building an organization. Another thing, the rules, promotions, postings should be jawan friendly. Why difficult postings for more than a year. Jawans should be rotated, every one year or 6 months if possible, it will boost their morale. more
