Corruption in Government Hospital Supplies: Issues

Several of you have written via various posts and comments about corruption in functioning of Government hospitals, esp in regards to supplies.

Some of you have stated how suppliers have to pay bribes to supply equipment/consumables in Govt hospitals from qualification to orders to getting their bills paid.

Please share all that you are aware of in this regard. The objective is to come up with a set of specific recommendations for Chief and State Health Ministers across the country to implement so corruption can be greatly reduced.

We look forward to your inputs!

Corruption in Hospitaland(Health) Judicialy is ramphat in India. There is no sympathy of the sufferring people. There is fee collection methods and the lines are long. There is no suffecient servicing persional in hospitals. The main root reason is the Servicing (Doctors) after getting knowledge / Experiencing being attracted by other hospitals like corporate. This should be stopped. And such Doctors should be penalised even by invoking criminal Proceedure code. This is not being done. This also has link with caste. This discrimination should be stopped. And According to the Medical Council of India, the allopathic doctor-population ratio at present works out to 1:1722. The patient nurse ratio also depends on various factors like type of patient care provided and nature of specialization etc. and varies from 5:1 to 19:1. This information was given by the Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Smt. Panabaka Lakshmi on 4th May, 2007 in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha. How far this ratio is suffient has to be looked by the Government. Private medical practicing should be totally banned and it should be brought under free essential services since people are sufferring with more diseases with changing environment and climate. more
I wish to highlight an episode which came to my knowledge yesterday in the larger interest of PUBLIC AT large. When some one book a cab through UBER and payment is linked with PAYTM they simply hold Rs350/. Due to any reason if it is cancelled same time with charges or waived or trip is completed they charge again in PAYTM WALLET. Under the circumstances a passenger is forced to block additional fund. For example if one book four or five times and cancel or take up the trip his amount 1400/1750 is on hold. Firstly this condition is no where displayed in there website and secondly they also debit the charges. The buck does not stop here When contacted PAYTM the explanation was given that it is UBER policy and will be credited after 24 hours. Resulting which in convivence with UBER they enjoy FUNDS at the cost of PASSANGER for at least 24 hours. Not only this even you may have sufficient balance in your account with PAYTM but with this practice you are subject to declined the RIDE. It clearly indicates they want to enjoy free FUNDS may be laks of Rs. Daily and if one calculate the interest on this it may be substantial. It is nothing but a daylight robbery at the cost of innocent passengers Now I am narrating my experience on 5th AUG I replenish 1000/- when I was declined the booking. However on 6th Aug I booked a cab from AIR port and I was charged 254/ appox and they have adjusted 63/ rs cancelation and 50/ promo discount. But irony that 350/ was still on hold till date. Again on 7th Aug when I booked again UBER thrice I had to cancel the same and cancelation charges were waived but the problem started then. They coolly hold Rs. 1400/ even after debiting the cancelation charges. When I wanted to book again booking was declined because there is sort of balance. After that when I checked up PAYTM wallet statement it was shocking to see because of Rs1400/- being on hold the balance was reduced and not only this but the charges were also debited additionally. With this episode it is quite evident that there is definitely an unholy NEXUS between two co’s. in the light of aforesaid may i request you to highlight the story in your esteem newspaper to educate the innocent passengers and let the PUBLIC at large should be aware of this type of dirty tricks. For your information and evidence I am enclosing the screen shot of statement of PAYTM wallet. more

The suppliers, contractors, businessmen are responsible for the spread of corruption in the country. Steps to be taken to stop this. more
In all government purchases there is kickbacks... directly or indirectly for gratis to decision makers and dealing clerks. The best is to make all system electronic, for bidding to receipt to payment to reduce it, though the delivery and getting receipt of goods will involve the physical connect, which then can still be manipulated for the benefit. But accountability and recording of any malfunctioning in individual files will help too. But if the procurement and bidding is made fully online, then there is chance of reduction of corruption, with regular counter checks and shuffling of staff duties too... we all need to work hard for this and make strong information system for this........
