Corruption in passport police verification,Burdwan
It is really a chronic unfortunate for us as we have been carrying corruption with us in India within Government offices. Just yesterday, My Mom, brother and sister went for the local address verification in IB office Burdwan, West Bengal. Despite of having all the documents the relevant IB officer asked Rs. 30000 showing excuses that my mother, brother and sister do not have valid documents which can prove that We are Indians and not Bangladeshis. These Government officers use the new rules issued by the Government of India to pour their belly with greater amount of bribe. Mostly they choose those victims who are not well-educated like my family. It seems only God can help us to evacuate from this destruction going within the country. My father even fought for Municipal Corporation on behalf of Congress (Which I do not admire very much as they are the root the corruption in India) in the year 1992. Even after taking part in the election which is one of the soul activity mentioned in Indian constitution, If we have to prove we are Indian then I have nothing to say. They asked some property papers before 1969 that can prove whether we are Indian national or not. I just want to tell those people that the way we have run the country for last 70 years in which poor have become more poor and rich have become greater rich, how could we afford to buy a property. At that time even we didn`t have domestic let out rule that we can have rental evidences. Most importantly, I have got my passport in the year 2005, that means I am an Indian citizen then how come my mother, brother and sister would be Non-Indian? It is really shame on our lurking government officers/employees who search for opportunities to rob people who are in destitute, like us. Let me tell you, We can not prove our Indian identity radically because it is in our blood. We live India, breath India, and ready to die for India. It is my sacred motherland as she is being dirtied by these bribe seeker Government officers/employees. If you love money so much then why are you in Government offices, that is not the place to earn money, that is the place to serve the country, a very few get this honor not everyone like us, it is better get yourselves in the businesses, I bet, you would be able to earn huge money. corruption is the root which has gone deep into the Indian politics....but cannot have the depth more than the power of 1.3 billion people ......for us corruption has to be peanuts .....I have seen ladies in Mumbai shouting at the policeman when he demanded money when she had crossed the traffic lights ...she was shouting to attract attention of the public which soon joined her - she was telling the traffic policeman to take the fine and issue a receipt ! We can do it ...we can erase the corruption ....we can play the same game which these corrupt people play ...the only difference they ask for bribe in low voice ..we can shout and get the entire department on the head more

In Chennai due to severe water crisis on-line booking for water has been instituted. I booked for 9000 litres to fill my sump on Thursday, 25/05/2017. The booking was acknowledged and booking number given to me by SMS. It was also stated on the website that delivery would be executed within three days. Since I did not receive the tanker-load by Sunday, I sent an SMS to the Area Engineer of Valluvar Kottam Filling Point whether I would receive the load on Sunday or Monday. There was no reply. On Monday 29/05 I enquired over phone at the filling about the fate of my order. Shortly after my call I received a shocking SMS at 11.01 am that my order has been delivered. I have complained to the Chennai Metrowater , the AE Filling Point, etc. and the latter even put the lorry driver to talk to me who claimed he had called me at 6.50 pm Sunday and that the Depot has noted that my mobile phone was switched off. Since I was keeping the mobile phone ON and in my pocket I know this to be a lie. Since the Depot assured me that they would send 9000 litres tanker load immediately if I reordered, I booked online again, and notified them of the new booking number. It is Tuesday, and 12.45 pm and the Filling Point is yet to send the tankerload. I fail to understand how the Filling Point or the lorry driver can divert my order to someone else merely on the pretext that my mobile phone was switched off. How can they cancel my order and pretend that supply was effectedd? My complaints over phone and emails have only elicited two solicitous enquiries, one from "Head Office" on 29/5 and another this morning, whether I have since received the tanker load. I have not and am still waiting. This is plain harassment of a Senior Citizen and defeats the very purpose of On-line booking of tanker being introduced. I shudder at the thought that every time I order I may be harassed in the same manner. So far no response from any functionary, Asst. Engineer upwards, to my problem. L.Kalavathi Retd. CORRUPTION is worse than any known disease and will take a few decades, if not more, to get free from the shackles of corruption. The law must be very harsh to deal with such cases or the public should swing into action and directly deal with the erring persons to teach everlasting lesson(s). A severe fear must be instilled in the minds of such persons. more

Be persistent and if you are lucky you might get verified with out bribe. Hopefully change is happening mostly in the right direction. The system need to be more transparent and the responsibility of providing service should lie with the public servants. more

Yes, police verification for issue of passport is a source of corruption. What is the police supposed to verify? Only the address, that the person who has given a particular address as his place of residence actually resides there. For that all that he has to do is to physically verify that the person actually stays there, nothing else. BUT, they ask for your birth certificate, property registration documents, your educational certificates, telephone bills etc etc. These are already verified at the passport office and it is not their business to verify those documents. But these policemen use the "address verification" requirement as a tool to harass innocent citizens and extort cash/kind. They even tell you stories of how someone did not get his passport because they gave a negative report to scare you into submission. Another tool of harassment used is they ask the person to report to the thana. It is often not possible for a person, especially for senior citizens, to go to the thana. And how does the Inspector verify place of residence if the person being verified meets him in the thana? So, the whole exercise is only to extort bribe for sending the address verification report. This ill must be rectified. One suggestion is that when the policeman comes home for the address verification the person being verified should be allowed to have an independent witness who will sign the documents and a copy of those documents should also be given to the individual. It will be the proof that the policemen has actually visited the residence and verified the address. This is suggested because it has happened, and I know such a case, that the policeman has not been 'satisfied' and he therefore submits a report that he visited the place and did not find the individual at the address given. more
