Corruption in Sales Tax/VAT depts
Many of you have written to us on the corruption that prevails in VAT/Sales Tax departments. Kindly list all the ways in which such corruption takes place. Also, please list the kind of harassment, businesses (large and small) are subjected to by this state department.
The objective here is to understand the issue in depth and then have a separate discussion on solutions that will address this on ground corruption in India.

Ihave purchased a building which already rented to GESCOM OFFICE at Raichur to continue the lease in my name I have submitted all the title deeds to pay rental in my name for that PWD department has to approve the rent and Ihave to pay ₹18000/- for valuation and rental estimate fee officially and Mamool of equal amount to get the work done ; otherwise my file will not move this with after influencing by friends and relatives working in the same department. This is the state in our society and country how can one expect that this situation will become clean . Even it is getting worsened day by day, our children will have bad days. Govt officials and offices have lost their morality and if someone pays them good money they may sell their wife and daughters the days aren’t far. Certainly the bad ways of getting money (not earning) will not bring them happiness the cursed money surely affects their children and family. In intrest of this country people should change it is enough tolerated this shameless officials and their political bosses. How long this has to continue do we want our children to grow in filthy money. Useless people who can’t earn by their brains and hard work do this filthy job and feed their loved ones by filth.ಹೆಸಿಗೆ ತಿನ್ನುವ ಜನ. more

It is primiraly the power that the sales tax dept has to freeze the company bank account and various other powers that are being misused by the officers. To start with most of their powers should be withdrawn and they should be made to understand that the tax payers are not criminals. more

Corruption in Sales Tax/VAT depts Commercial Tax Department is like any other State Government Department and as such prone to corruption and bribery. Corruption in this department does not require a special treatment. Treatment here also is same as other departments. All transactions, payments and reciepts online. Demonetize and create a cashless society. more

The officers who are admitted through many state service recruitment cells are coming after paying a huge amount of money. Or they are of a particular caste or religion. When these officers get posted, they start getting their money back and the rotation goes on. Vyapam like cases are there in most states. This is making mockery of talented persons and spoiling the system in the long run. The action in these cases are very rare. So, it is very prevalent in the society. When you dont have the right workforce, how you will have right service??? I have seen cases in a state where a person has just qualified for Sales tax deptt and is requesting the posting at a city, where Sales tax collection is very high. Checking the system may be possible by using technology and right laws. more

No member is responding to my suggestion that cash transaction beyond Rs.500=00 should be made either through cheque or credit card so that corruption could be stopped in all areas. I may be wrong but why there is no reaction to it? It should be introduced in steps not immediately but it has to be done if we wish transparency in all transactions and wish to curb corruption. more
