Corruption in State Food Safety Department
With this post we would like to seek your inputs on the various issues of corruption that exist in state food safety department
Be it licensing of food production or a restaurant or an inspection, please list all corruption issues that prevail. If you are unaware, please do talk to your local grocery store or restaurants in your area and then share.
Once we understand the issues, we will have a separate discussion on solutions and then take this up with key stakeholders so actions can be taken to address such corruption.

Food adulteration is one of the subject which incapacitates most of the living being in some form or other,sometime sooner or latter. Name a product which is not adulterated,even a fruit which is natural product is adulterated by using chemicals for it longevity without any consideration for its effect. the agency responsible to check it and ban the same, are not bothered at all for this. They are only concern for their share. Unless there is mass awakening, it will continue and people will keep on suffering. more

Do something about food adulteration. Just to cite an example; I started buying cow milk from Country Delight who promise to provide wholesome milk. And what a difference it makes compared to the packaged milk I used to use earlier.it simply means that if someone is able to provide unadulterated food stuff, it will be a big blessing for all of us, especially the future generations. more

I have read comments and input from other participants and for most part I agree with all of them. I think the most sensible and practical solution that can assure positive result is the system in inspection and licensing process should be digitised and to introduce incentives and severe penalties to inspectors and vendors including fines, jail time, suspension of employment and licenses and permanent ban on reissue of licenses. Adulteration and unhygienic nature of our food chain is very harmful and life threatening to end users. Urgent action should start without any delay. Let us get the Food Ministry involved in this transformation. more

Let us leave the present Food licencing system and the rules for manufactured goods. For me the biggest concern is the food adulteration in Fruits,Vegetables ,Milk and food grains which generally are not subject to any inspection at point of sales. more

Well things can get far better in government towards accountability, if whole process is digitised and first courts are made accountable too, as the biggest sorry state is our courts and delay in dispensing justice and not entertaining frivolous cases, may even impose high fines for such cases while dismissing them. Its not disturbing the promotion, but there can be other actions on non performance and checking of assets of the family by regular declaration, every 2-3 years and anti corruption/ vigilance dept checking these as well regularly. We all know sound monitoring and digitisation only will improve things and efforts has to be started on this more
