Covering of open drains
If the NGT has ordered covering of open drains how can Noida authority say that we wont do it. Why did they issue tenders for sector 85 redevelopment plan without including covering of the ganda nala? Anyone has any idea? more

I agree that the drains need to be covered, but one also has to understand that putting a concrete cover over a drain of say 20 feet width is not easy nor is it cheap. We must also understand that no sooner a drain is covered with slabs, etc. this is going to become a place for un-authorised shops and eateries to start operations. Then they will start spreading muck around. Of course, drains must be covered, but authorities must also ensure that the covered area is not misused. more

In Noida the drains should be covered with a provision to have slabs which can be moved to desilt the drain.Open drains lead to dumping of garbage in them apart from the other connected problems. more

In my opinion covering of drains will make it difficult to clean them in the undisciplined and corrupt government/NOIDA/municipal organisations.We should pursue for rgular cleaning. more

Dharampal ji, Your thinking about covering of drains is not correct. Almost all over the world the sewage system is through underground channels. This is the same practically as covering the presently open drains. In all cases where the drains are underground, there are periodic inspection areas, from which people can enter inside and clear the drains in case of jamming. Though this does not happen except rarely, since no refuse gets added to underground drains. It is important, however, to ensure that there are 40-50 feet tall chimneys over the covered rains to allow the gases to flow out. more
