Covid 19 and bad air quality will be killer for Delhi NCR

Last year, Punjab produced 20 million tonnes of paddy residue out of which 9 million tonnes were burnt, according to government data. In Haryana, 1.23 million tonnes out of the 7 million tonnes produced were burnt. air pollution levels in Delhi NCR shot up and hospitals began getting overwhelmed by patients with respiratory complications.

But this winter may be a lot more choking. Air pollution increase can damage lungs, reduce immune response and turn a mild Covid-19 infection into a serious one, global research has already warned. Remember, high air pollution leads to increased episodes of coughing or sneezing that can spread Covid-19 faster.

Researchers say that air pollution increases susceptibility to tuberculosis and the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) caused by, again, a coronavirus. Air pollution also triggers co-morbidities like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases and may increase Covid-19 fatalities, experts have cautioned.

With the current ICU covid bed situation those suffering from respiratory issues may not find icu bed and covid effect will need more icu beds which we won’t have.

If you live in Delhi or NCR and are being indifferent to this issue, I dont know what to say. May be you hot bigger issues.

But my point is we all need to stand up and ensure that Kejriwal and company are working on this in mission mode with Punjab and Haryana and even UP and Center so there is ZERO stubble burn this year.

If we dont act now, delhi ncr will have a crisis in november. more

Mechanised handling of crop residues with Govt subsidy must be taken up in right Earnest and should be linked with fine for burning of straw etc. more
Delhi ,Punjab ,Haryana Govt should stop this menace of Air Pollution in Public interest. more
THe Government should take preemptive steps to check paddy burning. more
