Covid vaccine AEFI treatment

Who pays for the treatment if someone undergoes serious AEFI case after covid vaccine? Some people who had hemorrhage or paralysis after vaccine are bearing the cost of treatment themselves, which is not fair. It is the government that should bear the cost. Is there any mechanism? Please share friends. If there isnt let us discuss and ask the Govt to institute it. more

There are three cases: 1) Those who have taken the vaccine out of their own volition, and 2) Those who took the vaccine under pressure of State Government GO's. For example, those who need to travel in Mumbai Metro, or travel to Rajasthan etc. 3) Certain commercial organizations are doling out purely illegal vaccine mandates, even in States which do not have any mandates for workplaces. We must note the fact that vaccines are purely voluntary as per Central Govt. Therefore the Central Govt is not at all responsible to compensate for any AEFI. Where certain State governments and/or commercial organizations are mandating vaccines, victims of AEFI may need to sue them and wage a legal battle. If you have to take the legal route, you may consider this as an example: https://indianbarassociation.in/worlds-first-vaccine-murder-case-against-bill-gates-adar-poonawalla-filed-in-indias-high-court/ . You might approach IBA too to fight your case for the Government bearing the burden of treatment for AEFI. You might also be able to sue commercial organizations who mandated the workforce to vaccinate. Now, coming to the most fundamental aspect, that is reporting AEFI. Most citizens are not aware of how to report AEFI. Here is the procedure: How To Report An AEFI 1. At vaccination site, ask for number of nodal officer. 2. If any adverse symptoms do arise, contact nodal officer of vaccination site and consult. If AEFI, ask them to note and report. 3. If nodal officer is not available, contact Ministry and vaccine manufacturer helplines. Ministry contact- Helpline numbers 1075 and 011-23978046, and technical number 0120-4473222. Email ids are- support@cowin.gov.in, pvpi.compat@gmail.com, pvpi.ipc@gov.in For issues related to Covaxin, people can reach out to pvg@bharatbiotech.com or 1800-1022245. SII's (Covishield) grievance contacts are pharmacovigilance@seruminstitute.com and 18001200124. 4. Follow up to see if it has been registered. Hope that helps. more
Having noted the observation, suggestion/advice & pondered over; it's worth requesting & motivating Ms Sunita Mishra to organize efforts on one hand to apply her remedy, on her own, with help of others, and guide the govt to do the same. Good luck. more
The matter is not at all debatable. It is FOOLISH more
Madam, please define who "Government" is. more
Sir, This is highly debatable issue and I tend to lean on the side of Dr. Jayaram Mailankody. I believe that there is no compulsion or lack of choice in vaccine. Thus, if someone of his own volition avails vaccine that too due to the benevolence of GOI, and there is no conclusive evidence of cause and effect, then the individual is responsible for his treatment. Not withstanding this, GOI can ensure that he receives that treatment at Government rates (AIIMS rates) even if that treatment is taken at the hospital where he/she was vaccinated. more
