Dear Mr. Limaye, You should get an Debit card from your bank. It can be used as ATM Card also. Keep a limited amount in the account which you use for Debit Card transactions. Debit card should be swiped in your presence and then you can enter your PIN number to confirm the transaction. Please do not share your PIN number with any one. With these precautions the use of Debit Card is safe. more
Mr Mandrekar. There is always a chance that someone can rob you of your cash and valuables while you are walking on a street. So, would you not leave your house for such silly reason? There are positive and negative factor for each action. While there are more who believe in the positive action and very few who remain afraid of a likely negative action. If you read my earlier message, you would realise that when one opens a normal saving account in any of the private banks specified that automatically he is given a debit card linked to his/her account. Who has made any mention of a credit card, which you are asking questions about? Before this demonetisation occurred that there still was an option available for internet banking and net transfer. There was equal chance of the problems existing then, as it is now (regarding the problems mentioned by you). And yet, one has to file one's Income Tax returns now on eReturns, one gets the eReceipt on one's email, and refund if any, gets credited to one's account directly through ECS transfer. I am sure that you had never raised any objections over those activities so far. Nothing has been reported of having gone wrong in last 5-6 years. So, why should now the problem occur? Smart auto drivers, panwalla and chaywalla have shifted to mobile wallets and have managed to INCR4ASE THEIR BUSINESS by attracting the business of those, who kept cribbing about the likely problems and did not take any action. They were the losers. One must understand, that this is only the beginning. If one starts making oneself aware of making use of the technology, one shall survive. If not, one will be like a fish out of water, at a later date. more
Sudhakar Mandrekar ji - There is always some risk. Even banks have some risk because their computers can be hacked. Using your debit card in an ATM or in a store also has some risk. There is risk of carrying cash (even if you go to bank in person and use a cheque or withdrawal slip to draw money). Living itself has some risk (ask any insurance company and they may give you some idea of the risk involved)..... Regarding your second query about banks issuing credit cards without documents....the answer is yes or no, depending on how much information the bank already has about you....if you are a regular salaried employee or if you are a pensioner with the pension coming into the account with their bank, the bank already has some information about your credit worthiness. If you are a self employed person, and if you file income tax returns, the bank may issue the credit card based on the income tax returns....the bank may also issue a credit card if you have a fixed deposit with them....in which case, the fixed deposit will have a lien on the card. ID proof and address proof are already needed by the bank before they can open a savings bank account for you. Only income proof / FD lien is the extra document needed as per my knowledge. The best thing is to talk to your bank. Best wishes. more
