Credit for exclusion period while porting the health insurance policy

A feedback from one of the consumer about health insurance policy is that he has ported an insurance policy from one Insurer to another Insurer. The original policy had an exclusion for three years for pre-existing disease and the recipient Insurer had a policy of four years for the same disease to be excluded but surprisingly the recipient insurer had stated 4 years from the date of porting of the insurance policy which has already served close to three years of exclusion period ( exactly 3 years will be completed on 9th January 2019). The person took up with the recipient Insurer bu the company refused. As per rules, the credit for the excluded period and credit for any other benefits like NCB etc accrued from the Donor Insurer has to be afforded to the Insured after porting the policy.

Anyone faced such problems while porting the policies. more

The beneficiary should get the benefit as available with the new porting company more
Please escalate the matter to the higher ups of the insurer. In case you don't get any satisfactory response from them within a reasonable period of time, you may complain to the Insurance Ombudsman. Your contention is right. We can move the INSURANCE OMBUDSMAN in the matter more
Yes i agree these insurance companies do not recognise each other. more
My wife & myself wished to port our Health Insurance Policy to Max Bupa Health Insurance Co. ' s FLOATER POLICY long after the conclusion of the exclusion period of our running Star Health Insurance Co. & Apollo Health Insurance Co. respectively. Even then Max Bupa Co. insisted for our Health check up by their Medical Team at our cost. Hesitantly we both underwent Health check up at our cost . Inspite of all our reports being normal , Max Bupa insisted for further Medical check up ( T.M.T. & ECHO-2D ) of mine . Since I had other important engagements , I did not agree for those tests for the time being. Under the circumstances as above , our policies were not ported to Max Bupa. Will some one enlighten me whether the insistence for the various medical tests by the Max Bupa even after the conclusion of the exclusion period of the running Health Insurance Policies is legally proper ? more
Medical tests (Also called Pre Policy Medical Checkup) is mandatory for a person 45 years and above. The medical tests will be conducted by the insurance company at their cost.

In Max Bupa, 50% cost will be recovered from the prospective policy holder only if the company declines the proposal. The proposal is usually declined if the company finds the medical reports adverse. In case the company accepts the proposal despite the adversity of the reports, it will be a huge risk to the company, as they are obliged to pay the claim once the proposal is accepted and the policy is issued. more
