Criminal waste of Public Funds Thane Smart City Project

Govt. has launched "Smart City Projects "at various cities and Thane city of Maharashtra is one such city. As a part of the project the Govt plans to develop gardens but in doing so it has destroyed Ecology at Thane East near the Creek. Mangroves near the Creek have been destroyed thereby posing a serious threat to the ecology as they prevent soil erosion. They also act as a breeding ground for the fish crabs and other aquatic creatures. The Mangroves were destroyed around January 2018 and the land reclaimed to provide a garden there. Said work was to be completed within 12 months excluding Mansoon. It needs to be mentioned here that the spot where Mangroves has been destroyed for the purpose of providing a garden, is infested with mosquitoes after 6 O'clock in the evening hence providing a garden at the said spot amounts to a Criminal waste of Public Funds. After the destruction of the Mangroves many wild plants and trees have grown there hence before a work of Garden could be taken up at the said spot of Thane East Creek, the wild plants and trees will have to be destroyed at the cost of Public Funds. As the Mangroves are Natural Plants which grow in the land near the creek, there is a Fresh growth of the Mangroves on the land reclaimed by their destruction in January or February 2018. It appears that some of the political leaders could be having vested interest in the Thane Smart City Project. At the Thane East Creek many Senior Citizens go for a Morning Walk and would sit and discuss over various issues by sitting on the small wall. The Thane Smart City Project at the Thane East Creek besides resulting in a Criminal waste of Public Funds has also caused inconvenience to hundreds of Senior Citizens as mentioned above. Today evening I visited the site where after destruction of the Mangroves in the Thane East Creek land was reclaimed for providing a Garden. There fresh growth of wild trees similar to the Mangroves .Those trees were burnt and the land levelled again. As the said area is infested with mosquitoes after 6 O'clock in the evening, no one can stand or sit there even for a few minutes to have fresh air and discuss over various issues of mutual interest. I will not be surprised if Anti social elements start producing Country Liquor in the darkness / loneliness. Govt should think 1000 times before undertaking a project with Public Funds as in the above mentioned case. Ramchandra Karve more
I visited after they initiated steps for smart city project. It is definitely making progress and looks better. Govt smart city project, it is only guidelines and funds are allotted. Actual planning and execution is to be carried out by local authorities. Blame those jokers who mess up the job, more
They are modern incarnation of Bachelor Kalidasa (before his marriage and humiliation from his newly wedded wife) - cutting that branch of tree nearer to the node, sitting on the far side, OR those who venture to axe their own feet with the objective to display their chivalry. more
More than money it is the murder of eco system. Mangroves provides breeding ground for all marine lives ( destruction of mangroves is the main reason for depletion of fish varieties & quantity. Mangroves also protects us from the fury of sea, it can prevent or shield us from tsunamis. Sadly today development means murder of eco system. more
I can only hope that someone in power is listening to the public outcry. Who bothers for the share wastage of public fund and SC/Govt orders as long as their personal greed is fulfilled. To day the illegal construction has become order of the day, almost in all parts particularly the fringe areas of metros like Pune,Mumbai etc.One need not to approach the auth for sanction, there are people vested with sole power from sanction to completion of all illegal works at exorbitant rates. Footpaths are widen at the cost of reducing the road width to facilitate the vendors to run their business for the reason known to every citizen. Authorities in power are just mute spectator. more
