Current Porter/Coolie System - Inputs on Root Causes

Below are some of the key issues as outlined by you in regards to the current Porter/Coolie System in Indian Railways.
Please review and help identify Root Causes of some of these issues.
Once we know the Root Causes, we will discuss solutions using a separate post and submit the whitepaper to the Senior Railways Leadership for
action.

Porter System at Stations – Key Issues
1. Porters lift luggage without quoting price and then quote what they feel like by unionizing with other porters thereby cornering the passenger to their quoted price
2. Porters do not follow quoted Government Porter rates at all and act unaware.
3. Many porters get aggressive quickly and fight with passengers over payment
4. They consume alcohol and come to work
5. Their behaviour towards the passengers is very rude
6. Theft of luggage by unauthorised porters is a frequent occurrence
7. Porters are nowhere to be found at night
8. Porters don’t wear their badges
9. Porters congest the exit path of the compartment by rushing into coaches as soon as train reaches the station more

No collie agrees to rates fixed by Railways. They demand exorbitant from ladies & Senior citizens. Some of the following steps may be considered: 1. Prepaid system may be implimented. There should be payment counter and coolies may be allocated from there similar to pre-paid taxies system. 2. They must prominently display their badges. Most of them hide badges in pockets & only strip is visible. If you ask badge number, they give a horrifying look. 3. These days trolley bags are becomming very common, hence at all stations ramps or underpass may be built so that one could drag his/her bag conviniently. more

dear sir every person to get easy travel in rail way its my suggestion to some mobile no are attach each and every boggi then called if any person in any station then solved the matter like lady problem and remember private teacher do not earn more money so rebate for ticket more

Dear Sir, Prepaid coolie system to be implemented in the railway station. Coolie licence also provided to Hizra (Bisexual) on reservation basis to avoid begging in the trains and also avoid nuisance created by them in train. I do not agree with Nitinji. It is not rich or poor. Some time you have excess luggage which has to be booked. You require porter. Porter rate should be proper and porter should not charge extra by coercing passenger. more

Porter system should be completely abolished...It creates a difference between rich and poor...If people believe that they have to do the work on their own,they tend to be care ful with their approach .....Instead trolleys should be made available at railway stations more
