CURTAIL CONSUMPTION OF PETROL AND DIESEL

Crude oil price is going up in the global market and it is beyond the control of government of India. While the price rise cannot be checked, why not take steps to reduce the consumption of petrol and diesel to the extent possible.

Reduction of tax can at maximum bring down the price of p0etrol and diesel by Rs. 10 or so per litre, as the government cannot reduce tax beyond this level. Further rise in the price of crude oil may neutralize this advantage of tax reduction for reducing the price in the market.

Why not close down all petrol bunks on every Sunday, as has been done in the past. This would certainly focus the attention of the nation on the grave situation and force everyone to reduce petrol and diesel consumption.

All state ministers should be asked not to allow more than two cars to follow them when they go on tour. Top bureaucrats should set an example by sharing the car for attending office. With everyone cooperating, certainly petrol and diesel consumption can be reduced by atleast 5% which would lead to significant saving in import of crude oil.

While protesting about the price increase, no politician has spoken about the need to reduce consumption.

Found something interesting based on the data on the below websites: https://www.statista.com India's total consumption of petroleum products in year 2018 is about 201.9 MMT. And as per http://petroleum.nic.in As on 1.4.2014, In-place hydrocarbon volume of 11,543 million tonnes of oil and oil equivalent gas could be established through exploration by ONGC, OIL and Private/JV companies. So, about 59% of resources are under “yet to find category”. Out of 11,543 MMT of oil and oil equivalent gas of In-place volumes, the ultimate reserves which can be produced are about 4199 MMT of oil and oil equivalent gas since inception. The balance recoverable reserves are of the order of 2182 MMT of oil and oil equivalent gas. And as per this article https://energy.economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/oil-and-gas/indias-crude-oil-production-fell-for-the-sixth-straight-year-in-2017-2018/64023944 for the year 2017-2018 we imported 82.8% of crude petroleum. Can the government officials do some math and see the obvious problem here, they are incurring heavier and heavier cost on the consumer by importing 82% of the required crude petroleum, and our countries production fell for the sixth straight year. Can they not route some of this money which is being spent on importing crude petroleum to research and development for the oil and gas corporations to produce more in the country which will ease the prices and also give us a competitive margin in refined petroleum products which are exported. more
TRUE. ELECTRIC BATTERY DRIVEN CARS SHOULD BE PROMOTED AND DEVELOPED. SOME ADVANCE EUORPIAN COUNTIES ARE BANNING PETROL/DIESEL CARS BY 2020. LET US FOLLOW SUIT AND FIX A DEAD LINE. GULF COUNTIES ARE IN PANIC, THEY KNOW THEIR CRUDE OIL TRADE WILL BE DRASTICALLY MINIMIZED. THEY HAVE ALREADY STARTED INVESTING IN ALTERNATE TRADES. more
Let Govt. not reduce fuel prices as high pricing is a measure to reduce fuel usage, which is the biggest drag on our economy. Let opposition cry or weep but in the national interest, Govt. must not reduce the petroleum product prices. more
CNG driven vehicles are an alternative but for inadequate filling stations. Prepare ourselves for battery driven cars, the sooner the better. Rise in transportation charges would give boost to inflation in time to come. more
