A.P. Police and Health Dept raided and found, Seized many Medical Shops of ADULTERATED Generic Medicines as well as the Regular Medicines in Nov./Dec. 2017 . Center and States to be very cautions on this also WHILE MUST CONTROL THE UNDUE PROFITEERING UNDER " MRP " APPLICATION. more
Thanks to those who responded and even corrected my understanding more
In Andhra pradesh generic medicines are sold at very cheaper rates. I think there are central and state govt generic medical shops separately. These medicines are as good as branded ones. They are available at very cheaper rates say 1 tablet for Rs 1 to 2.5 . The same medicine is costing Rs 4 to 10 in branded. But the MRP printed on the medicines is at par with branded ones. It is not understood why MRP is printed at high rate and sold at very low prices. They are issuing bills too. Why MRP is printed on generic medicines at par with branded medicines ? Please, can any one through some light? more

1) Before MRP Act, the seller used to charged extra under the guise of – “local taxes, sales tax, transport charges, cooling/storing charges, etc.” The reason for bringing MRP was to get the product at reasonable/one cost at all places. This MRP includes all type of local taxes, costs, profit also. 2) First Tax at the time of clearance of goods from the factory of manufacture is Central Excise duty (now GST). When MRP is printed/declared on the packed commodity C.Ex.Duty (Now GST), was to be paid by calculation on declared MRP, at the time of clearance from factory gate. For example, in case of flooring / tiles, which falls under chapter 69 of Central Excise Tariff, if the MRP is Rs.100/- basic price is Rs.45/- .GST in paid by company on Rs.45/-((treating basic price and not on Rs.100/-.) Remaining part of MRP i.e.Rs.55/-consists of all the expenses such as “transport charges, cooling/storing charges, etc.=termed as ABATEMENT). This product tiles you will get at one MRP of Rs.100/- all over India. Nobody is allowed to charged more amounts. 3)Now days modus operandi of the sale is, they tamper MRP by scratching or putting new sticker on this. Charging more than MRP is illegal under the Legal Metrology Act 2009. In Maharashtra imprisonments is proposed, which should be passed by Govt. The then Maharashtra Comptroller has dedicated whatsApp No.9869691666 for such complaints. 4) Some of the SSI (Small scale unit) which remain under exemption limit for GST (now under Rs.30,00,000/-annual turnover,) are in the habit of misusing this MRP price tag. They do not pay any duty, and under the guise of MRP making loot. How to handle these people is in the hands of Govt. 5) This MRP rule is profitable to consumers. So we should ask the Govt. to implement strictly. more
MRP fixing is done by manufacturing companies or Importers. Due to competition the price will be comparable price. The + - charges of transportation cost due to distance are being arrived by average. more
One Price at all places indeed befit some with high profit and keep others at least profit. This is a provocative . more
