Dear Community members: I have been bringing out various posts on the retailers unfair business practices in charging taxes on discounted MRP Prices. Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle, Pantaloons, Aditya Birla, all have been doing unfair business practices. Recetly District Consumer Forum, UT Chandigarh has also adjudicated on the matter and agreed that the retailers charging taxes on discounted prices so arrived is an unfair business practices. Today I have bought some cotton cloth from APCO sales emporium of GOVT of Andhra Pradesh Rajahmundry. they have given discount of 30% on MRP and imposed 5% GST on discounted price. When asked they say it is less than MRP ,hence no issue. The above judgement need to be brought to the notice of all the concerned. My case shows that even after 6 months of the judgement it is not properly made available to all the concerned. may be the local consumer forums need to contribute. My bill no 2211 Dt 13th January 2018 Rajahmundry. May be the authorities at the Head quarters of APCO need to educate the employees at sales counters. more

Sir, government alone cannot enforce the Acts. The public participation has to be there. The public need to ensure that the provisions are implemented even where the Govt. is laxing on its responsibilities towards the citizens. more

Congrats on this achievement! But there are certain things need to be addressed. If the Honourable National Commission has adjudicated on this issue in Jan. itself how come the Honourable District Forum is not aware? The Department of Consumer Affairs suitably amend the Rules-2 Clause-(1) of the Legal Metrology to break up and show the MRP with actual cost + Packaging and cartage +VAT amount ? more

True. But retailer can always sell at a price lower than MRP by sacrificing his margins. more
