DEBIT / CREDIT Card Transaction Fee being COLLECTED without CONSENT
CHECK B4 you sign the MERCHANT COPY OF THE TRANSACTION SLIP
Just discovered that some merchants (luckily NOT ALL), without informing us, still COLLECT from us, albeit surreptitiously,
Card Transaction Fee.
This is inspite of RBI's warning not to do so thru Notification circulars ::

RBI/2013-14/292 DBS.CO.PPD No. 3578 /11.01.005/2013-
The discovery of their modus operandi came to light when I visited the bank asking them how they have debited “TIPS" for a Petrol Bill and that too after a few days.
TIPS is normally ADDED BY US while paying Restaurant Bills. The Bank said the Merchant takes our signature on their copy - which shows us the bill and subsequently ADDs by himself in the TIPS row which - incidentally - does not exist in our portion of the slip. The Bank is - obviously - obligated to follow our “instruction” to pay, having signed the slip.
The only way to avoid this is to write NIL in this TIPS SPACE of the MERCHANT's COPY of the signature slip. more

in Northern Avenue branch of SBI in kolkata, Manager Mr Paik said i have to open new account because the Thakurpukur branch is not under core banking. he forced me to submit the then debit card. now after 8 years i see that they are levying annual charges on that submitted card. because it is low amount and when they deduct the annual charges are the busiest week of the financial year, generally it got overlooked. more

Many AC Hotels collect service charges on the total bills and this amount is being pocketed by them, instead of depositing with the Govt. This is a bad practice and should be stopped immediately. more
