Degradation of Services, punctuality and upgradation of prices in Indian Railways

Now a days, when you enquire about running status of a train of Indian Railways, it will go to show that the train is running late by hours, even 5 to 7 hours or more. No accountability and no fear or shame of being put to questions by anybody. Previously it was slogan for Indian Railways, Safety, Security and Punctuality, but present days these are no more slogan for railways rather on service side they only look for revenues not welfare of passengers. This Industry now functions like a private industry or say capitalist mind set. Show-casing something and delivering something. Nobody there to listen passengers difficulties and sufferings. When a passenger writes something they use to answer like a politician or capitalist. Railways is going to run some Bande Bharat trains for more comfort and less time consuming journey but they forgot existing trains and lines are at miserable conditions. Maximum Train running upto 200 KMs to 370 KMs, becomes late starting from minimum 30 minutes to 05 hours plus late. This is not happening occasionally but normally happens. For last few years, train reached a station before its schedule time never been heard which heard in the past. Locomotives are now became automatic and more sophisticated and their pilots are also extraordinarily trained. But situation of punctuality gone to drain. For example, yesterday, one daily plying 18304 Intercity Exp. running from Puri to Sambalpur reached destination by 05 hours plus late, scheduled time was 10.30PM. Just imagine the misery of daily travelers, who may have gone for any daily job. Frequency is not once or occasional but the train is running late routinely like this. Like wise matter of western railways, northern railways and other railways of the countries are similar. Politicians to run their legacy intact and popularity, flags up new trains but the capacity of lines and stations, are not coping. They don't know technically how feasible to accommodate those new trains. Who suffers ? commuters and Railway/station management. In the past, one Railway Minister Mr. Suresh Prabhu was so sincere, concerned and honest, he tried to attend every aspects and welfare of passengers as well as Railways employees, along with Revenues of Railways and owing to responsibilities of train accidents, resigned as Railway Minister. A single tweet of passenger was attended and steps had been taken by Railways those days. I myself has witnessed such service. But now, after him, no characteristics of him is seen in present days ministries. I have report of miscreants snatching baggage of passengers from A/c coaches and Railway police is saying that they are investigating the matter but times passed on, nothing have been achieved in the matter. This is security standard of Railways. Safety matters are also alike. In the mean time all might have heard about what happened to inaugurated Bande Bharat ran from Puri to Kolkata (Howrah). Goods trains are meeting accidents in routine manner. Passenger trains are seen not to have been counted in this regards. Other side of revenue generation, Railway changed name and class of Passenger Train to Express Train and hiked its tickets price though it runs with its original scheduled time of passenger train along with halts remained the same. Here is an example, the passenger train which was running from Rourkela to Puri vice versa now renamed as Exp. train. So, management of Railways and its ministry should pay attention to all these aspects and problems to make the Railways Services better. This is my request and suggestion. more

I had been a frequent traveler by various trains in various classes ( Unreserved Class, IIIrd Class Reserved Seat, IIIrd Class 3-Tier Sleeper, IIIrd Class 2-Tier Sleeper, IInd Class, Ist Class, 3AC Class, 2AC Class,1 AC Class) between Mumbai-Nagpur-Howrah, from and to various stations - since 1971. My preferred train used to be the "Calcutta Mail" (earlier 1Dn/2Up Howrah-Nagpur-Bombay Mail - now 28109/20810 Howrah-Nagpur-CSMT Mail). Before time arrival at each station was the norm - late running even by half an - hour was rarest of the rare days, which used to attract a point in News Papers. Now a-days 3 or 4 hours late running has become the norm, occasionally beyond 10 Hours. Today, it was late by 6 Hrs 15 Min, about 60 km behind the Destination. News Papers, TV Channels are buzz with newer and newer Vande-Bharat Express introduction. Seems these trains are at the expense of basic discipline - Punctuality. Crowding of 2nd Sleeper even 3AC/2AC classes by unreserved passengers, 1AC class by unauthorised Railway Employees (?) has become a norm - no newspaper has got space available for such topics. more
I don't know much about train schedules but I know distance between Puri and Sambalpur it is around 370km. How could some one travel 370km for a daily job! Capitalist or Socialist mindset? Who knows and who cares for except the fake intellectuals who have nothing else to do. more
Pity and funny fact is that almost every passenger train has been converted into express train and so the express trains into super fast express trains but retaining the time schedule the same. This is nothing but to generate revenues with additional levies. Secondly, many routes have been double tracked but the time schedule remains the same for all trains in those routes. I don't understand the reasoning as there will be no crossings which eat into time factor. Noticed, in many express trains the time to cover 3 kms distance is 40 minutes. This variably happens when the trains is nearing their destinations. I noticed, one super fast train between Chennai and Mumbai had earlier 10 stops and now had 30 stops and all 3 trains are super fast express trains now & having 25 + stops. More number of stops and thus more revenue. Again more ticketless travellers as train has maximum 2 or 3 TTEs and they rarely move across compartments after every stop. Needless to talk about unreserved compartments. Added to this peril is the travelling railway employees at free of cost as they don't endorse their passess. On top of it, railways says that ticket cost covers only part of the spend/expense. Will there be white paper tabled on all these aspects in the public domain more
looks like govt is interested only in showcasing vandebharat and all other trains are of no interest to the govt and all work is focussed on them and no one cares for the common man and sr citizens more
Can't see any solutions in the present scenario. more
