Delhi Traffic Police Corruption -OLA/UBER
I am a daily OLA/UBER CAB traveller. Number of times the drivers have been caught by Delhi Traffice Police personnel for breaking various traffic rules, like Red Light jumping, Number Plate not in yellow, not wearing uniform, going through one way, having fake licence, not having licence, etc., etc. Astonishingly at not even one time, the driver paid the fine properly. He bribed the police man by giving just Rs.100/-/Rs.200/- against penality of more than Rs.1000/- or so. Sometime he has paid Rs.300/- but got receipt of Rs.100/- or paid Rs.200/- through receipt against fine of Rs.1000/-. Yesterday, it was too much that another defaulter (while my driver was negotiating with the police man) came and with instance paid Rs.200/- for wrong driving offence ny saying RAKH LO YAAR and the police man didn't say anything and kept the amount. It is deep routed corruption and possibly the only solution seems to deal with every thing through CCTVs only. Besides corruption, the most alarming thing is the security of other people on the road. God save us !!! more

Police system in our country is legacy from British, which ruled country due to fear of uniform. Such power without accountability led to corruption. While IPS officers are well trained and selected through premium examinations, lower rank is selected within state selection system, where bribe is paid to politicians and higher offcials through a well mechanised system. One constable confessed to me that people pay 3Lakh-5 Lakh even for constable's job in UP. Further, we have reservation system, where talented people are denied job whereas low merit are selected. The following needs to be done as a part of police reform- 1. Selection of Police staff including constables, SIs, Inspectors and above purely on merit basis. 2. Rigorous physical, mental and psychological training to trainees at the time of recruitment. Also, after completion of 6-8 years of service, staff must be inducted to higher level of training on forensic, crime solving techniques, human right issues, etc. 3. Police staff should not continue till 60 yrs of age at working level. They must continue till 40 years of age at field level if physically fit. Beyond that they must be skilled and retired or given desk jobs . 4. Army personnel retiring at young age must be inducted in police. They are physically fit and well trained. Also, their mind set is of nationalists and free from corruption. 4. Corruption must be dealt severely with dismissal and legal action. however, it has to start from top only. Root of corruption is politicians and bureaucrats. more

It is the political system which used the police for their own selfish ends & in turn the policemen also misuse their powers on general public & the politicians cant rein in them. more

Mr Subhash Ahuja, if you were witness to all the instances that you've described, then it appears that you've always gotten entangled with a driver who regularly gets into trouble with the traffic police with you as passenger. In such cases, would it not be valid to ask as to what steps did YOU as citizen take to let your driver be "fined" appropriately, because you knew that he was in the wrong? It takes two hands to clap, not one! more

Let us talk practically. Is it possible for you to intervene as a third person? Have you done any time as such? We instead of giving thought to such crucial issues for solution, we contradict ourselves only. It is very easy to leave the issue as it is. The issue is that in our country, we have very good rules and acts but their implementation / monitoring is not of very low standard. more

Delhi Police Personals are Thieves in uniform . Even if you Complaint to commissioner instead of listening He will cover up these shoddy policeman actually the entire hierarchy is established in Such a manner after paying an X amount to the commissioner will be appointed & then the subordinates will collect and Pay to Commissioner so he recovers an X amount paid by him to become commissioner. Even For Inspectors, Sub Inspectors,Asst Sub Inspector, Head Constable, Constable for transfers , not to transfer from a particular location the rates are Fixed. Beyond this if the police has to implicate a innocent person in a criminal case by registering a false FIR there is a Fixed Price not in thousands but in Lakhs moreover if they need to protect a criminal then for not arresting & not implicating in case F.I.R the price stands not in thousands but in Lakhs.And They are expert in giving salute to a rich / influential person or a Hard core criminal. So is our Police For You For always. more

After reading what Subhash Ahuja and P. Rajesh Rao have written with such detail affection towards the Delhi Police, it would be necessary to point out that due to a couple of bad police personal the entire force gets maligned. True to point out their under handed deals which is there daily livelihood(as put in the words of a very senior officer who retired and now passed away said to me) The salary is basically there pension for their old age andd nothing more whereas the under handed money provides the rations to feed their families, take care of their elderly, pay for school fees, provide money for entertainment of the family, fund their booze habit with all the dressings(Non-veg, Namkeens) as well as womanising et.al BUT...They were also those who were providing the actual policing which they had signed up for too. NOT all the guys are bad. Police all over India is bad and unfortunately from a hand full has now become the majority. After all its we the people that have made them so. If we do not entertain them any longer then this practice will stop surely. SO I WOULD REQUEST ALL CONCERNED TO STOP IT AND REPORT WITH PROOF SO THAT THE DEPARTMENTS AND CONCERNED FOLKS TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION AND THE CORRUPT ARE PENALIZED IMMEDIATELY..REQUEST EVERYONE SUPPORT AND WE CAN END THIS MENACE. more

I fully agree and endorse what you are saying but the media sleeps with such incidents. They prefer chasing the politicians instead of chasing the corrupt. I suppose they tried to expose a lot of fake stuff during the UPA that is now being proved wrong so no action from their end..Media is the right people for this sort of a job because they have the right tools and implements for such expose' and maybe they would just increase their TRP too.. more

The agony is that every one knows what is happening but no one comes forward at the Government level to curb this. Proof is happening almost every where openly. Why media is quite and does not expose through sting operation? more
