DEMAND for BETTER SEWER NETWORK
The main objective was to regulate the sewage generated by the public as well as the factories. As of now they are being le into the existing river systems in Chennai , which have turned sewage channels . Besides that , the 46,000 Lakes and its surroundings around the city is being used as Garbage dumping places . And the Pumping stations and treatment plants are also situated close to these Water bodies. The ill effect on the Water bodies can well be imagined.
There is a great challenge for the Administrators :
* The same system of sewage clearance is followed from 1921 . What was the population then , and the life style and the quality of food consumed to that of the present scenario , particularly the quantity generated to the chemicals that are added to the sewage . The present population of Greater chennai is 75 Million [7.5 crores]
* The new requirement of the increased treatment plants and increased locational paces for treatment Plants .The centralized system should be replaced by locational installation of Treatment Plants in the city .
* Co operation from the citizens and participation in the welfare of the city and their own surroundings .
* A specialist also suggested an account of the rainfall as to how it is being utilized . For example the 59 cm of rain in December 16 ,that lead to the Deluge in Chennai is almost 150 T.M.C. [thousand million cubic feet ] 75 % of what we are demanding from Karnataka to in Kaveri for the use for agriculture and other purposes. The major portion of the water went into the sea and inundated the housing colonies .
HOPE THE GOVERNMENTS IN THE STATE AND IN CENTER GIVE THEIR THOUGHTS TO SOLVE THIS VERY VEXING PROBLEMS OF THE CITY DWELLERS . THE PLAN HAS TO BE IN MANY OTHER CITIES ALSO . SHOULD WE DEPEND ONLY ON N.G.O’S FOR OUR REFUGE ? more
responsible Government agencies should have thought sensibly and taken a seismogram or any other suitable investigation before going in for Digging operationwith elaborate security .
In this meeting held this Sunday an expert had quoted another experts opinion that the current sewage system hasn't changed from the year 1921 when the British built.
Don't we have minds to think beyond what is done a Century ago or want to turn deaf ears. more
