Demonetisations of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes
Thereafter I went to Sector 18, Noida, Bengali Market, Delhi and Central Market, Lajpat Nagar, Delhi. There was traffic jam at all the three places with cars clogging the roads. There were people going back loaded with shopping bags containing fancy goods and not bare essential items to survive. The atmosphere was such as if no demonetisations has taken place, there was no shortage of money and people were thronging market buying things. The real situation is that there is no problem. No one is starving. Everyone is going about in almost normal way.
In such a large scale operation all over country there is bound to be a few instances of hardship. But TV channels and Newspapers are only highlighting these stray incidents. Good work in no news but only bad news is good news for them. They are deliberately and selectively showing or highlighting any wrong action of bank employees and not the good work. They are doing this to get higher TRP and circulation.
Instead of praising the effort of the GOVT to weed out black money, promote recorded transactions through banking channels and widen the taxpayer base, the TV and press are spreading misinformation.
Are we proud that only 4 percent of population of India files income tax return compared to 29 percent of population with only 8 percent better off white population in South Africa who files return ? Are we not aware that a lot of people in our own neighbourhood have taxable income but they do not pay any taxes. Are we not ashamed of the situation?
Let everyone bear some trouble so that tax evaders become compliant. TV and Press must change their approach and start supporting the good move. more
