Dengue Recovery Diet

Delhi has witnessed a drastic rise in the number of dengue fever cases since August this year. Drop in platelet counts is one of the major effects dengue fever has on the body along with low enzyme production, dehydration and weakness. While there is no prescribed diet for dengue, your diet can play an important role to aid a speedy recovery.

Eat easy-to-digest foods like boiled vegetables, curd, split dals, semolina, and soups. Have porridge, as it is not only easy to swallow but also has a lot of health benefits. Avoid anything that is spicy, too salty and oily as your body will not be able to digest them properly
.
Include plenty of liquids
Include plenty of liquids to make up for the water loss from sweat and vomiting. Try to drink many glasses of water. Coconut water will be great to bring back the electrolytes, minerals and other trace nutrients lost by dehydration. If you want some taste in your mouth, drink lemon juice. Lemon juice will also help remove toxins from the body due to the virus.

Consume papaya leaves
Papaya leaves help increase platelet counts. Simply crush and squeeze a handful of papaya leaves to extract the juice. Consume 1-2 tbsp of the juice every day in the morning and night. The papaya extract is, in fact, one of the best home remedies for dengue fever. Here are some more home remedies to control platelet loss and recover from dengue.

Increase your vitamin C intake
To improve your immunity, consume a lot of vitamin C rich foods. Foods like oranges, guava, kiwi and papaya will not just improve your immune system, but will also improve your appetite allowing you to eat more. Consumption of vitamin C will also help promote antibodies for faster recovery.

Have lots of protein
Protein will play an important role in bringing back the strength lost during fever spells. Consume egg whites, low fat curd and cottage cheese at least twice a day.

Eat at regular intervals
Make sure you eat a small meal every couple of hours to maintain energy levels. Eating in smaller portions at regular intervals will also keep your insulin and glucose levels stable. more
