Dental post and/or core
Respected Doctor and forum members.
Please note I am seeking inputs from you regarding my dental treatment. I have a teeth #4 with top crown fell off and has only roots. So doctor suggested a treatment of placing post and crown on it without extracting the teeth.
Please advice me on this. like is it durable solution. What are the pros and cons? Any alternate better solution?
Regards

Thank God that doctors in India have actually started communicating with patients during treatments and make them understand what's being done and why. Thanks to such conversations I learnt that root-canaling a tooth means disconnecting it from the nerve that feeds it. And there are valid reasons why this should be done. The tooth is then rendered just a dummy and is useful only for chewing the food. The tooth needs a cap which in medical terms for not quite understandable reasons is also called "crown" ! Extracting the tooth would mean loss of a chewing agent.... If this cap/crown falls off for any reason, it's advisable to replace it as soon as possible. In fact, I am currently undergoing treatment for root-canal and crowning which should end by next week. more

I had brooken my one front teeth in early 1960s while playing Badminton.. It was trated in Lucknow Medical Coolege with a crown fixed on post without extraction of teeth. Fortunalely it is still there though crown or cap on post had to be replaced because of cracks in the crwon. more

Yes, it's a durable if properly fitted. I had one of the canine crown gone and had the said treatment 4 years ago with no problem at all. Go ahead and get it done before it gets too late. more
