the chief symptoms of diabetes are polyuria, ie increased frequency of micturition. polydypsia, ie increased fluid intake. and increased appetite. traditionally the literature states loss of weight. but thats only in type 1 dm. type 2 dm patients mostly are overweight. other symptoms may develop in patients with long standing undetected diabetes. these are a part if diabetic complications. diabetic retinopathy- blurred vision diabetic neuropathy- thingling and numbness diabetic nephropathy- decreased urine output diabetic vasculopathy- gangrene frequent infections and delayed healing other complications are dyslipidemia, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular risks. but they are complications, not symptoms. the best way remains to have it tested annually below 40 yrs and biannually if above 40 years more
