Deterioration in Railways Performance

In the last 9 months, Railways has declined in almost all areas according to me Here is why:

Pricing of tickets have gotten more expensive with flexi fare that instead of travelling 1st/2nd ac one should take flights:

safety has been bad with so many accidents

cleanliness is not to the mark, esp inside trains and many platforms are like nizamuddin station in bad state

cancellation charges are higher, irctc site is the same

big announcement on RO water plants, designer linen are all just talk

useless initiatives like giving platforms for wedding are being talked about

fog and timeliness story is still the same with no improvement

display on platforms is still missing

favoritism for mp mla, friends, quota travel, saloon travels by rail senior staff remains the same with no real action to reduce emergency quota seats. even dak khalais continue unabated (only ministry to provide have tax payer funded peons at home)

Many other initiatives are just talk except may be now there is insurance, some better food options, a twitter handle exists and then this circle for so called travelers input/opinion. Yes may be the helpline actually helps. But largely its a 2/5 rating.

And I havent talked yet about the even bigger losses railways is incurring after the pay commission.

So question Is railways loosing the plot going into 3 years of Modi Sarkar? Debate why I am wrong or advise why I am right and give even more reasons. more

Even at big stations, we do not find basic amenities. If a train is late due to some reason, it is made to delay further. On last 12-14 Dec, I was travelling from Nizamuddin to Bangalore by Rajdhani. Any how, in the morning of 14th Dec, we were informed that the train is late by about one hour. My son also checked the same on line and arrived at the station to receive me. But the train reached late by three and a half hours. On my journey back on 5th January, again by Rajdhani, we traced that the train would be late by about five hours due to some problem on the track. But it reached with a delay of more than twelve hours. I, alongwith many of my co-passengers missed the connecting trains. It has been my old experience that the delay of trains is never declared honestly. And the flexy charges and cancellation charges are taking a big toll on passenger's pockets. more
I have no comment on these issues. I understand that focus on maintenance was ignored since long long time due to which important defective parts (which can not be assessed with naked eye) are failing in undesirable rate. On Mon, Jan 9, 2017 at 2:11 PM, Amit Mishra wrote: > more
Amit Mishra's points are well taken. I also wish to RESPOND to the intelligent observation of Arun Banerji " IS RAILWAY A MONEY MAKING ORGANISATION ..??.." I WILL SAY " YES " - IT DOES NOT MAKE A PROFIT FOR THE COUNTRY'S COFFERS BUT IT MAKES PROFIT FOR THE INDIVIDUALS RUNNING THE RAILWAYS, ON BEHALF OF THE COUNTRYMEN...!!!.. It cannot be denied that " Railways can be run on PROFIT ..!!.. BUT the Officers and Ministers running the Railways will not allow the Railways to run on PROFIT. THEY WOULD RATHER FILL UP THEIR OWN POCKETS THAN MAKE THE PROFIT FOR RAILWAYS. After Suresh Prabhu took over Railway Ministry, Matters started improving but now, it is " BACK TO SQUARE ONE " ....The standards have started sliding and the Mafia rule has commenced. The Reservation Rigmarole has not been sorted yet - You cannot get a reserved ticket from the counter but if you approach the right agent - YOU CAN TRAVEL. CLEANLINESS HAS TAKEN A GOOD BEATING : PLATFORMS AND STATIONS ARE LOOKING DIRTY : THE COACHES AND ITS BATHROOMS STINK: THE LINEN SUPPLIED IN THE A/c COMPARTMENTS ARE SOILED AND STINK ETC ETC. The On board food supplied in the Shatabdi Trains running between Chennai and Bangalore is pathetic. The toilets stink. NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN RAILWAYS DESPITE ALL THE RHETORIC OF SURESH PRABHU. more
I recall my posting in Jabalpur. We lady officers had to sleep or rest on the platform while waiting for the Patna Express or Ganga-Kaveri Express to arrive, to enable us to leave for Chennai. We have never found the trains arriving on time (around 10 pm). Instead we had to frequently contact the Station Master to discover the status and which platform the train was expected to arrive in. On one occasion the train arrived on a different platform sometime after midnight and everyone had to clamber up the staircase with luggage to reach the platform. One can imagine the chaos, stress and anxiety. All this made me decide that it was not worth shifting my aged mother and rest of my family to Jabalpur. Incidentally we were told that Jabalpur had an airport. Only it turned out to be non-operational and we were forced to depend on the train despite our eligibility for air travel vis-a-vis seniority etc. L.Kalavathi Retd Bank Official Chennai, Tamilnadu, India 12th Jan 2017 more
In the month of November2016, our family consisting of minor children, adult children and other adult members (both males & females went to Agra by Taj Express leaving Nizamuddin by about 8.10am.WE reached Agra Cantt by 10.15 or so.The train Journey was pleasant. After our visit we reached Agra Cantt by 8.30 pm to catch an express train starting from Gwalior. The train which was to reach Agra Cantt by 21.40 hrs was reported late by 40 minutes.Lot of Americamn Tourists were also returning to New Delhi by this train. Most of us were staying in First class waiting room in first platform for the train to come in second platform.By 22.30 hrs,the train paeticulars were removed from the information board which is put up in different locations. Since there was no official information as to when the train will arrive in platform no.2,all the passengers left the first class waiting room and moved to second platform. There was no official announcement about the status of the train. We had to call our relatives in New Delhi to intimate us the status of the train through internet. The train ultimately came around 01.20 am.Of course there was announcement in the public address system just five minutes before the arrival of the Train. Our small childten could not sleep and all suffered from severe cold in the open platform. Railway Minister and Raiway Board members should clarify as to why the staus of the train is not shown on the notice board till the actual arrival of the Train and why periodic announcement about the status of Trains running late is not announced for information of travelling public. Railway administration has to ensure that the travelling public are not put to inconvenience especially when the trains are running late. more
