Development of Children - Key Issues

Dear Friends:

Today we want to initiate a social subject of raising our next generation well so they are healthy, educated, confident and have the right values.

It is critical for the future of India that our next generation is brought up right at home, in school and in society.

Please list all issues that you see with the current generation of kids in the age group of up to 18 years. Once we know the Issues, we will work through our structured approach and review Root Causes and Solution separately.

The objective would be to put together a whitepaper that can be acted upon by Government, Schools and Parents for the effective development of Children in India.

We look forward to your participation!

Our Kids are like a diamond in the crown, instilling core values is key from a very young age. Parents should take the primary responsibility in shaping kids through out their life. Our education system needs a complete revamp. It almost seems like a copy and paste from the British system of education. The fundamental issue lies in our system of education that is highly theoretical. The schools don't tech you "out of box" thinking, team work, project oriented coaching. We have a very bad way of testing kids. They write exams, board exams etc- Some stranger that does not even know the kids, many times not even competent is responsible for evaluating the kid, kids are evaluated without knowing strengths and weaknesses at key points in their lives(7th grade, 10th grade, 12th and degree) and the objectives given to people that are evaluating in these board exams remains to be fundamentally incorrect, the driving factor for exam paper evaluation is "to complete x # of papers in" a finite duration of time. This leads to poor evaluations of kids. This is an outdated system. The public school system in India should mature big time. They should shape kids not just in academics but also in being model citizens. New systems outside of CBSE, ISCE and State Boards should be experimented atleast to begin with Education is fundamental in core in development of children as well rounded individuals. Kids need to have field trips, social service, encouragement of innovation. I know first hand where kids gets admonished in our system of education for thinking outside the box. This limits their thinking ability. A highly personalized education system is key. Teachers should be qualified and the education department should really evaluate the system of education. The issue is not with the syllabus per se, but how its administered and how kids are evaluated. Education and schooling should be made fun for the kids. it should not be regimental. Our kids attend school most time in the year, schools should become a centre of excellence for overall development of a kid. In addition to the above, we should have electives for kids from a young age where they can choose from subjects outside of academia such as environmental responsibility, social work, civic responsibility, political sciences, cultural science(Vedism) etc vs purely book driven education. more
every one should clean our home front including gali , connecting road let us start for sawachh bharat abhiyan more
1.Compulsory self defence classes for girls in All govt. schools. 2.teach them basic manners, like not spitting on the roads, saving water, proper bathroom discipline. 3.Implement stringent rules in all schools regarding neatness and cleanliness. Students should be taught and made to understand the need for neatness. Students caught littering stuff here and there in and around the school premises should be punished and then counseled. 4. NSS should be made a compulsory scoring subject for class 7,8,9,10, especially in the central govt. board(like CBSE). Among the activities included in the NSS scheme, two very important activity should be a.teaching and educating poor slum children b.educating slum, pavement dweller adults on the importance of family planning and how to respect respect women and the girlchild. 5.Projects in the subject EVE/EVS should include planting tress along roadside/barrenlands, school premises. 6.Students should be taught strongly against discrimination based on caste/creed/religion. The concept of caste system and religious biasness should be vehemently opposed and the same should be passed on to the students. Sex discrimination should also be discouraged and strongly taught against. 7.Sex education classes/seminars should be held for all students of middle school, secondary and higher secondary students. This is a VERY IMPORTANT aspect which is almost Nill in Indian Education and so should be seriously considered. 8.Students should be inspired to love and respect their own country, its culture, art, natural beauty. They should be encouraged to use Indian goods and appreciate indian artisans and promote them. They should be Discouraged against unnecessarily Idolizing foreign western nations. However, they should be encouraged to appreciate and learn the positive sides of foreign societies and strive to implement them for the betterment of their own nation. 9.Govt. should start a new compulsory subject called "code of conduct"(just like evs/eve was done before a few years). Points 2,3,6,8 can all be together enforced and implemented via that subject. Code of conduct should be taught with special care, effort, and sensitivity. It should be taught in a comprehensible way and involving low cost but effective and inspiring projects and activities. For this subject there should be such people appointed as teachers who has(voluntarily or done to join as teacher for "code of conduct") been an active part of NGO/Social service organisations. more
