Diesel Price Hike for Bulk Users will push Industries on backfoot
The Petroleum Ministry yesterday announced hike in Prices of Diesel by Rs.25/- per Litre. Since Industry is highly relying on Transport Industry for movement of Raw Materials and Finished Goods, the increase will cripple the already staggering Industries who are yet not fully out of Covid blow. On one hand our Government is garnering Wah-Wah's for playing a neutral role in Ukraine Crissis and repeated abstention in UN Voting enabled the Government to get Russian Crude. So if it is at a higher cost then it is Faulty negotiation or even perhaps fleecing the industry by hike. Either situation is loss making for industries. This hike will no doubt be passed on to Consumers and we will shortly be staring at inflation.
Cheap bulk use diesel was the only input in supply logistics cost that would have helped the the poor. Poor, otherwise ever buy diesel cars, and whosoever does is he poor? Is this decision fair!

India's abstention from UN Voting against Russia was not to get Russian crude but to have a balanced relationship both with Russia as well as USA as our nation needs to maintain a cordial relationship with both the countries. India's action also reflects an acknowledgment of the helping hands extended by the erstwhile USSR in our every difficult times in the past when the mighty USA and its allies were against us. As far as reports appeared in various print media, the Russian Government had offered its crude to India @ much cheaper rates than its present international prices. The recent hike in diesel prices for the bulk industrial supply may be under some unavoidable circumstances.

If "Unavoidable circumstances", agreed, then increase retail prices. Toyota Innova car owner can afford
Bulk user, with cascading effect, will affect the poor!

Agreed with most comments. All prices will go up, mostly many thanks to Russia. In time, however, the resilient humans that we all are , will adjust to such price increases. My firm belief, though no statistics exist, is if we can somehow curtail the rampant corruption that exists at all levels, the severity of price-hikes will be blunted.

Why are retail customers, need one add rich, the ones owning big SUVs running on diesel enjoying subsidised prices when we know 80% of our hydrocarbon fuel costs so much foreign exchange, and is also highly polluting. Moreover, why should India open herself to being asked for return favours by Russia who everyone has seen being an autocrat will someday ask the favour be returned. India is invested heavily into solar energy, with farming pumps now running on sun's energy.

Yes, agriculturists are "annadadas" but people involved in other professions should not be undermined at any point of time as they are also contributors to nation's economy in one way or other. And hence there should no disparity when it comes to taxation, may be with higher basic exemption for agriculturists which will help small farmers.
