Dirty Toilets: A recent newspaper report quoting a survey which stated that major area of concern for the long distance rail travellers is the dirty toilets. The sad part is, of the four toilets in a compartment, two are western toilets. In an Indian train, I do not think any person would dare to use a western toilet, due to untidiness. These are effectively reducing the toilets to two instead of four. The justification if senior citizens needing western toilets is unjustified as no Sr citizen will ever touch a western toilet in the train. Why can't Railways convert these to Indian toilets so that long quees in the mornings in front of Indian toilets would ease. Similarly there should be cleaning provisions at intermittent stations say ever four hour distances. Clean toilets should be a major priority for the Railways. more

It is very impractical to expect Toilets to be very clean and even more so the Western type toilets. Let's be practical. We are Indians and we know well our levels of hygiene and work discipline. In this situation the Indian type toilets seem the best deal and most practical. I am sure anyone using the Western type toilets in the Trains will be having great faith in his God. more

I am a Senior Citizen frequently using our trains, using western toilet.I dispute Mr.John's view of long quees in front of Indian toilet. It is on the other way.More over in a compartment there is one western toilet and 3 Indian toilets.Another point is western toilet can be utilized by everybody if kept clean. more

They have appointed private agencies for this , initially it was done with full swing and good work their supervisor used to come to the compartment passengers and used to take the feed back , asking for a good comment else their salaries will not be paid this is abt 2 yrs approx . But now they are at their worst, they do it just for the sake of doing it. its not done for neatness, it done just to pass their time. Modi says clean india, i feel railways is part of india. more

Railways can consider appointing outsourcing agencies to put some cleaners/safai karmcharis in trains. Their job should be to keep the compartments and toilets clean. more

I am not disputing the fact that Sr. Citizens as well as people who are used to western toilets need it; but travelling public avoid it due to the untidiness. more
