Disaster/Emergency/Health Communication
Why does a country of our size not have an effective disaster or public health ministry that communicates with citizens on a regular basis, shares advisories regularly.
I have friends who get heat advisories, terror advisories through their embassies in India but our government has nothing for its own citizens.
Shouldn't Govt value life and well being of citizens a little more? more

Advisories are meant for people who are living away in another country than their own.It is warranted .But people living in our own country and enough info is being disseminated through media do not need advisory as it can create panic amongst population. First disaster management has to be taken seriously by our government and have plans ,involve ministries and people and train them periodically .Then the advisories can be of use. more

well you can sort of subscribe to incois for earthquake or tsunami alert but overall DMA does not have one, surprising more

We walk in the middle of the road, drive on the wrong side of the road, cross railway tracks, hang out of buses & travel on rooftops of trains, eat unhygienic street food, most of our fruits and vegetables are laden with pesticides, milk & food products are adulterated, so why do we need any disaster or emergency planning? Why will the government bother about us when we don't care about ourselves? more

Dear Vijayaji, I appreciate your vision on the subject and it is very interesting question that Country like INDIA does not having a proper disaster management/monitoring system which results loss of thousands of peoples every year . We should have a strong seperate WING in our Ministry and some dedicated people should appoint for Monitoring / Timely Action during any kind Natural Calamities without waiting assistance from our Neighbor Countries . Yes, disaster management plan is working effectively since Modi government came in power at central level. It has done a lot of work Nepal earth quake, Jammu and Kashmir flooding etc. and it is being improved continuously. Even we can the performance of weather department also, the forecasting is absolutely correct since last 2 years. It means, everything is improving but it will take a time. Government is going in right direction towards development of the country. more
